SPORTS SPEAK UP!

-

I ALWAYS remember running into Coach Majerus in San Diego while on vacation several years ago. At that time he was a commentator for ESPN. A friend and I had been staying at Coronado Hotel but we were switching to the Marriott and we needed to get his luggage from Coronado and bring it to the Marriott. As we were waiting for a taxi, Coach Majerus drives up to valet dropping off his car and is heading inside. I come up to him and introduce myself as a big-time Lobo fan and missed him coming to the Pit. After talking to him for over 30 minutes about Lobo basketball, our taxi arrived to take us back to our hotel and get our luggage, he waived off the taxi, called valet to bring up his car back and he would give us ride to get our luggage. He always admired the passion Lobo fans had for their basketball team and how he liked coming to Albuquerque. He said it was his pleasure to take us and bring us back. Wow! What treat and a story I’ll remember for a lifetime. Lobo fans will miss Coach Majerus.

TO MOLLY, JORDAN, Brandi, Melissa, Mandy, Chelsea, Cristal, Dionne, Amy, Angelia, Katie, Abby, Julie, Georonika, Porshe, Lauren, Nikki, Sara, and Sweet Caroline plus all the other past and current Lady Lobo Basketball players and coaches Don & Yvonne, I want to thank you for many years of entertainment. My wife and I will be leaving Albuquerque after 30+ years for retirement life in Montana before you all return to our PIT in January, thus I am saying Thank You. We will catch games on the internet and might even make Las Vegas, but no matter what, the experience has been great. To my all time favorite LOBO, who epitomizes the feisty attitude it takes to be a winner, all you current LADIES watch some game film on Tiffany Scaglione. Tiff, you were that 6th player every coach ought to want on the roster. To all my fellow fans in Section 21, oops Section S now, thank you for the fellowship and great times we have had together over these many years we’ve been together.

WE KEEP HEARING Texas A&M freshman QB Jonathon “Johnny Football” Manziel could be the first freshman to win the Heisman Trophy in the 78-year history of the award from various sports media personnel. Don’t these so-called experts realize that freshman were ineligible to play until the 1970s? Maybe, it’s because now so many college players leave school early for the NFL and/or the one-and-done in college hoops that these sports folks are either unaware of prior freshman ineligibility or they’ve simply forgotten. The 2012 Heisman race has been a roller coaster of candidates throughout the season.
