Man arrested in shooting death

SANTA FE — A man accused of fatally shooting another man during an argument at a home in the Santa Fe area has been arrested.

The Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office says 54-year-old Jose Gutierrez is expected to face charges of homicide and other crimes in the fatal shooting of 44-year-old Frank Salazar early Saturday morning. Investigators say the fight broke out during a family gathering at which people were drinking and that an argument between Gutierrez and Salazar escalated into a fight.

Salazar tried to leave, but Gutierrez eventually pulled out a gun and fired several times at Salazar, his girlfriend and Salazar’s 3-year-old daughter.

The child and girlfriend weren’t injured in the shooting. Salazar was struck in the face by a bullet and later died at a hospital.
