Herbfest features fun and plants for the garden

The Friends of the Rio Grande Nature Center will present Herbfest, a springtime celebratio­n benefiting education at the Nature Center, on May 11-12. Hours are 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Herbfest is free; day-use parking is $3.

Activities include music, crafts for the kids, live birds with Wildlife Rescue, guided bird and nature walks and herbs, wildflower­s and plants for sale.

Saturday, May 11 slide shows and talks include Tess Grasswitz on “NM Plants for Pollinator­s and Other Beneficial Insects” at 11 a.m., and George Miller and Tom Stewart talk about “NM Native Plants at Home and in the Wild” at 1 p.m.

On Sunday, May 12, Wes Brittenham presents “Creating a Wildlife Habitat” at 11 a.m., and Judith Phillips talks about “Strategies for Gardening in an Extreme Climate” at 1 p.m.
