NMSU golf’s WAC reign continues
The New Mexico State men won their sixth WAC golf championship in eight years Wednesday in Henderson, Nev. The Aggies prevailed over the fiveteam field at 23-over par 887 (286-298-303) and a six-stroke margin of victory over Texas-Arlington.
NMSU coach Mike Dirks said a 17-stroke lead going into Wednesday’s third and final round might have tightened up his team. “The back nine we struggled a little but had a few closing birdies at the end, which was huge,” he added. Hobbs freshman Kenneth Fadke finished second at 4-over 220 and earned second-team All-WAC honors. Senior Justin Shin is a first-teamer. NMSU moves on to an NCAA regional May 16-18.
