NATIONALS 3, BRAVES 1: In Atlanta, Dan Haren pitched eight sharp innings and Denard Span hit a two-run double as Washington beat Atlanta on Thursday night.
The Nat ionals, who snapped a nine-game losing streak to Atlanta on Wednesday, allowed their NL East rivals to get only three runners in scoring position over two nights.
Haren (3-3) won his second consecutive start, giving up four hits and one run with one walk and four strikeouts. Rafael Soriano earned his ninth save in 10 chances by pitching the ninth.
CARDINALS 6, BREWERS 5: In Milwaukee, Jake Westbrook (2-1) allowed one run over six innings for his 100th career win as St. Louis held off Milwaukee.
PHILLIES 7, MARLINS 2: In Philadelphia, Ryan Howard and Domonic Brown hit solo homers to back Kyle Kendrick (3-1) as Philadelphia beat Miami.
PADRES 4, CUBS 2: In Chicago, Yadier Alonso’s two-out fly ball to right field dropped in front of Julio Borbon for an RBI single that led to a four-run eighth inning that boosted San Diego over Chicago.

WHITE SOX 3, RANGERS 1: In Arlington, Texas, Hector Santiago allowed two hits in five-plus innings filling in for injured Jake Peavy, and Tyler Flowers hit a threerun homer as Chicago handed the Rangers their first series loss of the season.
RED SOX 3, BLUE JAYS 1: In Toronto, Ryan Dempster won his second straight start and Boston took advantage of a season-high 10 walks to beat Toronto.
Dempster (2-2) allowed one run and four hits in six innings.
ORIOLES 5, ANGELS 1: In Anaheim, Calif., Chris Tillman outpitched Joe Blanton with eight scoreless innings of three-hit ball and right fielder Nick Markakis threw out Mike Trout at the plate as Baltimore beat Los Angeles.
TIGERS 7, ASTROS 3 (14): In Houston, Don Kelly had an RBI single to start a fourrun 14th inning and Detroit beat Houston.
RAYS-ROYALS, ppd: In Kansas City, Mo., rain started to fall at first pitch, and by the time the Kansas CityTampa Bay game was postponed, Kauffman Stadium resembled a snow globe. No makeup date was set.
