Job fairs sprouting up

Opportunit­ies bloom with five events over the next two weeks

A quintet of job fairs — including a pair tailored to veterans — will feature hundreds of employers with hundreds of full-time and part-time openings in the next two weeks in the Albuquerqu­e metro area.

First up are two Downs Racetrack & Casino job

fairs from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. on Monday for the neighborin­g community from ZIP codes of 87108, 87106, 87123 and 87131 and on Tuesday during the same hours for the general public.

The casino is hiring for positions ranging from valet drivers and slotmachin­e attendants to security officers, cage cashiers and more, casino representa­tives said in a news release. The events take place on the first f loor of the grandstand at The Downs Racetrack

& Casino, located at 201 California NE.

Also on Tuesday and in Rio Rancho, veterans interested in expanding their business or starting one are invited to a free Business Developmen­t Breakfast and Workshop

from 7:30-9 a.m. at the Destiny Center, 4401 Northern Blvd. NE.

The workshop is presented by the state Department of Veterans’ Services, the Veterans’ Business Outreach Center, SBA, the Small Business Developmen­t Center, the Rio Rancho Regional Chamber of Commerce and Wells Fargo Bank.

This Wednesday and a week later on May 15, customer-care call center company Sitel is hosting on-site job fairs seeking 200 full-time and 150 parttime hires from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. at the company’s facility at 4420 The 25 Way, next to I-25 and Jefferson NE.

In December, Sitel Albuquerqu­e expanded the first floor of its 45,000-square-foot facility, adding 320 seats. The growth is due to expanding volume with its clients, a global beverage company and global satellite TV provider.

“We look forward to adding many more talented profession­als in the Albuquerqu­e area to the team to support our growing business,” said Manuel Garcia, site director of Sitel’s Albuquerqu­e facility.

Prospectiv­e applicants can also apply in Sitel’s “Careers” section at www.sitel.com or in person Monday through Friday between 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Previous customer-service experience and strong computer knowledge is preferred.

On Wednesday and Thursday, more than 125 local and national vendors are participat­ing in the New Mexico Veterans Business Expo and Job Fair at the Albuquerqu­e Convention Center.

There is a vendor preview on Wednesday from noon- 5:30 p.m. and then the fair on Thursday from 8 a.m.-4 p.m.

Veterans are encouraged to pre-register online with event manager Kesselman-Jones at www.KessJones.com.

Finally, on May 14 the latest Gobs of Jobs Career Fair will be held from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. at the Marriott Pyramid, 5151 San Francisco NE in Albuquerqu­e.

Some of the employers include ABQ Health Partners, Bernalillo Academy, H&R Block, Rio Grande (The Bell Group), Sandia National Laboratori­es, United Health Care, Verizon Wireless and Western Refining.
