Down 18, Louisville rallies to nip at the Heels

NMSU women run win streak to nine

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Terry Rozier scored Louisville’s first six points in overtime and the No. 10 Cardinals erased an 18-point secondhalf deficit to beat No. 13 North Carolina 78-68 in overtime Saturday.

Rozier’s sweeping layup 43 seconds into overtime gave Louisville (18-3, 6-2 Atlantic Coast Conference) a 62-60 lead. Two free throws after Kennedy Meeks’ layup again put the Cardinals up and his 15-footer with 2:43 remaining gave Louisville the lead for good. Rozier finished with 22 points and 10 rebounds.

Montrezl Harrell had 14 of his 22 points in the second half and finished with 15 rebounds.

Marcus Paige scored 15 points for North Carolina (17-4, 7-2).

NO. 1 KENTUCKY 70, ALABAMA 55: In Lexington, Ky., Karl-Anthony Towns scored 12 points and the Wildcats (21-0, 8-0 Southeaste­rn Conference) shot a season-best 59 percent. Shannon Hale’s 13 points led the Crimson Tide (13-8, 3-5).

No. 3 GONZAGA 82, MEM

PHIS 64: In Spokane, Wash., Przemek Karnowski scored 17 points and Kyle Wiltjer added 15 to help the Zags (22-1) to their 15th straight victory. Domantas Sabonis had 13 points and 11 rebounds. Gonzaga leads the nation in field goal percentage at 52.7 percent and hit 26 of 47 shots against Memphis for 55.3. Nick King came off the bench and had 13 points for Memphis (13-8).

NO. 5 WISCONSIN 74, IOWA 63: In Iowa City, Iowa, Frank Kaminsky had 24 points and nine rebounds to lead Wisconsin (18-2, 6-1 Big Ten), which had 21 second-chance points. Aaron White scored 15 points for Iowa (13-8, 4-4).

NO. 7 VILLANOVA 68,

DEPAUL 55: In Rosemont, Ill., Ryan Arcidiacon­o scored all 18 of his points in the second half and Villanova (19-2, 6-2) moved a half-game ahead of Providence atop the Big East. Billy Garrett led DePaul (1112, 5-5) with 14 points and eight assists.

PITTSBURGH 76, NO. 8 NOTRE DAME 72: In Pittsburgh, James Robinson hit

a runner with 12 seconds remaining to give Pittsburgh (14-8, 4-5 Atlantic Coast Conference) the lead for good in an upset victory over Notre Dame (20-3, 8-2). Robinson finished with 14 points and 10 assists for his first career double-double.

NO. 9 KANSAS 68, KANSAS

STATE 57: In Lawrence, Kan., Perry Ellis had 16 points and 12 rebounds to help the Jayhawks (18-3, 7-1 Big 12) beat their in-state rival for the 49th time in the last 53 games. Thomas Gipson had 19 points and seven rebounds and Marcus Foster scored 19 points for Kansas State (12-10, 5-4). The Wildcats shot 17 percent in the first half.

NO. 18 NORTHERN IOWA 70, NO. 12 WICHITA STATE 54: In Cedar Falls, Iowa, Seth Tuttle scored a careerhigh 29 points and Northern Iowa (20-2, 9-1) ended Wichita State’s Missouri Valley Conference regular-season winning streak at 27 games. Fred VanVleet had 18 points to lead Wichita State (19-3, 9-1), which shot 5 of 24 from 3-point range.

RICHMOND 64, NO. 14 VCU 55: In Richmond, Va., Kendall Anthony scored 20 of his 22 points in the second half in Richmond’s (12-9, 5-3 Atlantic 10) comeback victory. Treveon Graham led VCU (17-4, 7-1) with 18 points.

NO. 9 IOWA STATE 83, TCU

66: In Ames, Iowa, Georges Niang scored 23 points and Monte Morris and Bryce Dejean-Jones each added 16 for Iowa State (16-4, 6-2 Big 12), which ran its home winning streak to 19. Trey Zeigler led TCU (14-7, 1-7) with 14 points.

NO. 17 WEST VIRGINIA 77, TEXAS TECH 58: In Morgantown, W.Va., Devin Williams scored 18 points and West Virginia (18-3, 6-2 Big 12) forced 26 turnovers. Robert Turner had 18 points, all in the first half, for Texas Tech (11-11, 1-8).

TEXAS 60: In Waco, Texas, Kenny Chery scored 19 of his 23 points in the second half and Royce O’Neale added 20 points to lead Baylor (16-5, 4-4 Big 12). Jonathan Holmes led Texas (14-7, 3-5) with 17 points.

NO. 21 GEORGETOWN 67, CREIGHTON 40: In Omaha, Neb., D’Vauntes Smith-Rivera scored 24 points and Georgetown (15-6, 7-3 Big East) held Creighton (10-13, 1-9) without a field goal for more than 17 minutes.

NO. 22 INDIANA 72, RUT

GERS 64: In Bloomingto­n, Ind., James Blackmon Jr. scored 20 points and Nick Zeisloft made two 3-pointers in a late 8-0 run in a win to keep Indiana (16-6, 6-3) second in the Big Ten. Myles Mack scored 20 of his 24 points in the second half for the Scarlet Knights (10-13, 2-8).

No. 24 OKLAHOMA 64, OKLAHOMA STATE 56: In Stillwater, Okla., Jordan Woodard scored a seasonhigh 17 points for the Sooners (14-7, 5-4 Big 12). Phil Forte scored 15 points for the Cowboys (14-7, 4-5).

NO. 25 BUTLER 72, MARQUETTE 68 (OT): In Milwaukee, Andrew Chrabascz scored 30 points as Butler (16-6, 6-3 Big East) overcame a 10-point deficit in the final 4:21 of regulation. Duane Wilson and Matt Carlino had 18 points apiece for Marquette (10-11, 2-7).

WYOMING 63, NEVADA 55: In Laramie, Wyo., Riley Grabau scored 18 points and Derek Cooke Jr. and Larry Nance Jr. had double-doubles as the Cowboys (18-4, 7-2) maintained their share of the league lead. Cooke had 14 points and Nance 11, and both had 10 rebounds. Tyron Criswell had 17 points for the Wolf Pack (6-14, 2-6).

COLORADO STATE 80, FRESNO STATE 57: In Fort Collins, Colo., J.J. Avila scored 17 points and added nine rebounds for the Rams (19-3, 6-3 Mountain West), who won the rebounding battle 49-29. Marvelle Harris led Fresno State (10-12, 5-4) with 16 points.

SAN DIEGO STATE 62, UTAH STATE 42: In San Diego, Aqeel Quinn scored 15 points and freshman Malik Pope added 13 to help the Aztecs (17-5, 7-2 MWC) stay tied for first place. Utah State (12-9, 5-4), shot just 29.2 percent from the field.

UNLV 74, AIR FORCE 63: In Las Vegas, Nev., Christian Wood scored 17 points with 10 rebounds to lead five in double figures for UNLV (13-9, 4-5). Air Force (9-12, 2-8) was led by Justin Hammonds with 15 points.

MWC/state women

NEW MEXICO STATE 74, UT-PAN AMERICAN 71: In Edinburg, Texas, sophomore Brianna Freeman had 25 points and a career-high 15 rebounds for the Aggies (136, 6-0 Western Athletic Conference), who won their ninth straight game. It’s the fifth longest winning streak in program history, and the longest since the school record of 15 set in 1988.

Sasha Weber scored 17 points, including the last two on free throws with 10.5 seconds left. UTPA (11-10, 4-2 WAC) missed two 3-pointers on its final possession.

FRESNO STATE 53, COLORADO STATE 49: In Fresno, Calif., Raven Fox scored 15 points and the Bulldogs (173, 8-0) used a late 8-0 run to top the Rams (15-5, 7-2). CSU, which got 13 points from AJ Newton, led 43-41 with 6:20 left but went 4:13 without scoring.

SAN DIEGO STATE 70, UTAH STATE 59: In Logan, Utah, Erimma Amarikwa had 17 points and McKynzie Fort scored 15 to lead the Aztecs (7-13, 4-5) past the Aggies (6-14, 3-6). Jasmine Porter had 13 points to lead USU.

UNLV 91, AIR FORCE 79: In Air Force Academy, Colo., Alana Cesarz racked up 19 points and 10 rebounds as the Rebels (8-12, 5-4) finished with a 13-1 run vs. he Falcons (2-19, 1-9). Lindsey Lewis scored 19 points for Air Force.

WYOMING 61, NEVADA 45: In Reno, Nev., Marquelle Dent had 18 points and 10 assists, Kayla Woodward added 10 points and 10 rebounds, and the Cowgirls (9-10, 4-5) beat the Wolf Pack (6-13, 2-6). Emily Burns scored 13 points for Nevada, which was outscored 27-4 in the final 12 minutes.

UC-COLORADO SPRINGS 89, NMHU 53: In Colorado Springs, Abby Kirchof f scored 28 points for UCCS (18-3, 13-2 RMAC). Brittany Brown scored 13 to lead Highlands (4-15, 3-12).

WEST TEXAS A&M 102, ENMU 51: In Portales, Sarah Stinnett scored 15 points to lead Eastern New Mexico (6-12, 2-6 Lone Star), but Division II’s No. 6 Lady Buffs had six players in double figures and shot 59 percent.

WNMU 56, CSU-PUEBLO 51: In Pueblo, Colo., RaTanya Newsome had 12 points, five assists and three steals, all team highs, as the Mustangs (11-8, 8-7 RMAC) held off the host ThunderWol­ves (11-8, 9-6).
