PERSONAL SPACE

Christian Lee Hutson lets you in through his music

- By Adrian Gomez Assistant Arts Editor

Christian Lee Hutson is a work in progress. And the results are shown in his music. “I’ve always come with music from a personal space,” he says during a recent phone interview. “It’s the only way I know how to be.”

Hutson also is a machine when it comes to writing. Though his album, “Yeah Okay, I Know,” was recently released, he’s already working on his second project. He’s hoping to get into the studio this summer to finish it up.

“There’s always so much going on for me,” he says. “I enjoy keeping ahead of myself and hope that I will fall in love with the songs again when I get ready to tour them.”

As time passes, the 24-year-old singer-songwriter has written mostly about his relationships.

“I’ve moved on from the girls and now am writing about my family,” he says. “These new songs are very personal and involve more than one person. It’s interesting to see how each song comes out of me. It can be triggered by many things.”

Hutson also has released 2012’s EP “Will Never Break Up” and his debut LP, “The Hell With It.”

Last year, Hutson released one song a month, all of which made the new album. He worked with James McCurry on the album.

Hutson is the type of person who enjoys being busy. He says that between writing and touring, he doesn’t have time for much else.

“It’s interesting to see where I am now with my life,” he says. “I feel like I’m moving forward and I am enjoying the journey. It’s always great to discover new ways to take shots at myself. That’s the whole point of making music. I’m letting everyone into my life, which can be interesting at times.”
