Police still seeking accused shooter

Two people were arrested and police are searching for a third after a double shooting back in mid-March near Juan Tabo and Central.

The media was not notified of the shooting until the arrests surfaced in public records Friday. Albuquerque Police Department spokesman officer Tanner Tixier said he didn’t know why the media wasn’t notified.

Jocelyn Lucero, 18, and her boyfriend Marcus Purdue, 21, are accused of plotting with a third suspect to rob a man of drugs and money, according to a criminal complaint filed in Metropolitan Court.

Police were called to a report of shots fired near Juan Tabo and Central on March 15. Officers couldn’t find a crime scene, but they did find two men with gunshot wounds at the University of New Mexico Hospital and confirmed they had been shot near Juan Tabo and Central, according to the complaint.

Police interviewed the man who drove the two shooting victims to the hospital, identified as Jevin Vigil.

Vigil told police Lucero invited him to a party, and he picked up three friends to go with him. As he was driving to meet Lucero, he saw her in her car with two other men, one of whom he had fought with in the past.

He called Lucero, and she insisted she was alone, so Vigil decided to still meet up with her. He followed her into a cul de sac, where a man jumped out of the bushes and started firing at him and his friends. Two of his friends, identified as Jorge Granados and Ceasar Leanos, were shot, Vigil said. He drove them to the hospital.

Lucero told police a slightly different story.

She said she and Purdue asked Vigil for cocaine, and he agreed to meet them. They then planned to rob Vigil, according to the complaint.

They picked up a friend of Purdue’s, who agreed to use a gun to scare Vigil. Lucero, who wasn’t aware the friend already knew Vigil, said he seemed oddly excited.

She met up with Vigil and led him to a cul de sac, where Purdue’s friend jumped out of the bushes and started firing at Vigil and his friends. As Vigil drove away, the shooter said, “(Expletive) man, I’m pissed we didn’t get anything,” then ran away, according to the complaint.

Lucero and Purdue picked up the shooter nearby and asked him why he had fired, according to the complaint. He asked Lucero and Purdue to not say anything about what happened.

Purdue confirmed Lucero’s story, according to the complaint.

Both were booked into the county jail, each charged with multiple counts of conspiracy. The shooter is still at large, Tixier said.
