Auditor to aid SF accounting

-

SANTA FE — State Auditor Tim Keller said Friday that his office will provide oversight to Santa Fe officials as they work to correct deficiencies after a recent report revealed problems in accounting for how money from a $30.3 million voter-approved parks and trails bond was spent.

The report, released late last month by the Albuquerque accounting firm REDW LLC, indicated the city didn’t have procedures and policies in place, it was impossible to tell whether projects were completed and employee time sheets could not be verified. Mayor Javier Gonzales and City Council members have since called for a detailed audit.

“We are working with the Mayor, the City Council and the Attorney General’s Office to develop a coordinated process for the red flags that were raised and to protect taxpayers moving forward,” Keller said in a news release.
