Boardman, Lobos shut out UNLV

LAS VEGAS, Nev. — Toller Boardman and Alex Estrella combined on a seven-hit shutout as the University of New Mexico baseball team rolled to a 9-0 victory over UNLV on Friday night.

Boardman (7-1) scattered five hits in seven innings, walking one and striking out seven to lead the Lobos (22-15, 12-7 Mountain West) to their sixth straight win. UNLV slipped to 15-21, 2-14.

Chris DeVito’s RBI single in the first inning gave the visitors an early lead. UNM broke it open with four runs in the third. Cory Voss, DeVito and Carl Stajduhar hit consecutiv­e RBI doubles during the rally.

Aaron Siple had three of New Mexico’s 12 hits, and DeVito finished 2-for4 with three RBIs.

NMSU 12, GRAND CANYON

2: In Las Cruces, New Mexico State (5-27-1, 2-10-1 WAC) got a complete-game, seven-inning performanc­e from senior Billy Conard (3-4) in beating the Antelopes (21-17, 10-2 WAC). The Aggies were led at bat by Brent Hermanusse­n, who hit a grand slam.
