UNM hosts CSU in sand doubleheader

-

The University of New Mexico sand volleyball team will look to end its first season on a high note, hosting Colorado State for pair of matches today at StoneFace Courts. Start times are 10 a.m. and 1 p.m.

It’s only the second home date for the Lobos (1-11), who have faced nationally ranked teams in nine of their first 12 matches. Colorado State is not an NCAA-sanctioned sand program this season, but today’s matches count on UNM’s record, nonetheless.

“While the sport is still growing, (the NCAA) allows some leeway with scheduling,” Lobos coach Jeff Nelson said. “CSU obviously has great talent, but we have more sand experience. It’ll be an interesting matchup.”

The Rams finished 31-3 in the indoor season and won the Mountain West title.

Eastyn Baleto and Julia Warren (6-6) have been the most successful team for UNM. Ashley Newman and Lise Rugland (4-8) are coming off wins last week vs. Arizona State and No. 10 Arizona.
