New chair of CNM board is named

Debbi Moore was elected Tuesday

Rio Rancho Regional Chamber of Commerce President Debbi Moore is the new chairwoman of the Central New Mexico Community College Governing Board.

The seven-member board elected Moore, who is midway through her second four-year term, at its meeting Tuesday, CNM spokesman Brad Moore said.

Moore will hold the position until 2017. She had served as secretary.

“I’m very excited, very humbled and honored by my fellow governing board members for my new role,” she told the Observer.

The governing board sets policies concerning CNM’s mission and goals, and is responsible for approving its annual budget. It recently approved a $233 million budget for the 2015-16 fiscal year that begins July 1.

Moore was elected in 2009 to the board’s District 3 seat, representing all of Rio Rancho and six precincts in Albuquerque. She was reelected with no opposition in 2013.

She will serve as chairwoman of the board’s finance

committee and is a member of the audit committee.

The board elected Mark Armijo to serve as vicechairman and Pauline Garcia will be secretary.

Moore has been president and CEO of the Rio Rancho chamber since 2002. She also is chair of the New Mexico Small Business Development Center Advisory Board and a member of the Presbyterian Rust Medical Center Advisory Council.

Moore said the May 12 meeting of the CNM governing board will be at the Rio Rancho campus.

“We rotate around to all the campuses,” she said. “My first full meeting (as chairwoman) will actually be here in Rio Rancho, so I’m very proud of that.”
