Two to be feted at leadership event
Doug Brown, dean emeritus of the Anderson School of Management at the University of New Mexico, and T. Greg Merrion, president of Merrion Oil & Gas Corp. will be honored at Leadership New Mexico’s annual dinner on May 1.
Brown will receive the organization’s Distinguished Leadership Award and Merrion will be recognized with the organization’s Distinguished Alumnus Award. The awards are intended to recognize people who have used their leadership skills to improve the quality of life for New Mexicans.
Brown was Anderson dean for nearly six years, and previously served as New Mexico state treasurer, president and chief executive officer of the Tuition Plan Consortium and Talbot Financial Consortium and Talbot Financial Services. He has 28 years’ experience in banking and has served as a director for 14 for-profit companies. He has served on 50 different boards and held 18 board presidencies.
Merrion, a petroleum engineer, is the second-generation president of Merrion Oil & Gas in Farmington. He has served as a planning and zoning commissioner in Farmington, headed United Way fundraising drives, and chaired the New Mexico Oil & Gas Association and the Independent Petroleum Association of New Mexico. He is a board member of San Juan Regional Medical Center and the San Juan College Foundation. Through the Merrion Family Foundation, he supports education, economic development, social services and serving in leadership roles.
