SPORTS SPEAK UP!

-

A TOAST TO DEDICATED UNM seniors and Coach Bob Davie (who) beat Air Force to ensure a winning season! To complaints that Coach Davie doesn’t get enough in-state players, let’s fill the stands with New Mexico FANS and see who’ll stay to play for a full stadium of Lobos! For our bowl game, can we get a team we aren’t supposed to beat? That seems to be UNM’s magic formula!

SO, THE NCAA has approved so many college football bowl games that they will need to fill some of them with teams that are 5-7. Let the griping begin!!!

— Joe, ABQ

I KNOW THAT Coach of the Year accolades generally goes to the coach of the team that wins the conference, which presumably would be Rocky Long or Troy Calhoun, but consideration surely has to go to Bob Davie for taking a Lobo team, predicted sixth in the Mountain West, to fighting for a conference championship…nothing most fans would have thought possible. He turned what looked like to be a sixth place team completely around mid-season to finish strong against the best teams in the conference, and to compete in a bowl game. Kudos to Bob Davie and his staff.

EVERY YEAR in the United States thousands of people die from gun violence from people who shouldn’t have guns in the first place . I am thankful that UNM is checking people before they go to the games to make sure they don’t have guns and kill us all. The fact that they may have a concealed carry permit doesn’t make me feel any better. Leave your guns at home. THANK YOU UNM!

THE PROBLEM is NOT Yvonne Sanchez. The official’s name is Gator Parrish. To say he’s horrible is an upgrade. He did both tournament games and he’ll be doing the game at UTEP. Sorry, ladies.

ERNEST SOLIS, Peter Contreras, Gator Parrish — 3 of the clueless and biased officials I have ever seen! Instead of red or green for Christmas, they will be having a blue Christmas without Lobo Love after how they called that game inside the Pit.

MISSION ACCOMPLISHED: Coach Davie has succeeded where no one thought he would. He won at New Mexico and will lead the team to a bowl game following an amazing 7 win season. The rebuilding process is complete, the Lobos are a conference force to be reckoned with and the future of the program could not be brighter. “The Donald” on the future of the Lobo football program: “Huuuuuugh”

WELCOME TO THE “clueless on recruiting” club, Burt. Every time a Russo or a White or a Walsh receives a scholarship after walking on, its an admission of guilt by the coaching staff that they underestimated another NM student-athlete. Urlacher only became a HOF’er because the home school gave a skinny local kid a chance. The idea that a NM player is either too good to stay or not good enough to play at all, is preposterous.

— Butch

BE IT FOOTBALL or basketball, I have yet to see a NM team win a game when they shy away from their regular school colors to the “intimidating “black. Both NM D1 schools have tried that and in all cases I have seen they have LOST. I sure would like to have the money that was spent to clothe the entire team in these uniforms.

THERE ARE a lot of us out here who are tired of seeing taxpayers and students forced to support your entertainment choices. Long past time we got rid of college sports that are supported unwillingly by people who don’t give a rip about them. YOU support them, Johnny, and let the pro teams who draw from them support them. You’ll never see me at a stupid Lobo game.
