$25,000 raised to aid Boys & Girls Clubs
The Duke City Marathon (DCM), New Mexico’s longest-running fitness event, in conjunction with its partner Big 5 Sporting Goods, announced that, together, they have raised $25,000 for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Central New Mexico (BGCCNM).
For the past three years, BGCCNM has served as the beneficiary of the Duke City Marathon. Big 5 Sporting Goods, the race’s title sponsor, has six locations in the central New Mexico area that conducted additional fundraising.
“Before choosing a local beneficiary, we took a look at where we could have the biggest impact,” said Tico Navarro, DCM founder and executive race director. “For three years, we have been able to increase our support for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Central New Mexico and that’s due to loyal Duke City Marathon participants.”
BGCCNM serves more than 2,000 children in Albuquerque and Rio Rancho, providing them with state-of-the-art programming administered by highly trained staff. Tim Sheahan, BGCCNM president and CEO, explains just how much the funds help the children. “Enabling our youth to become productive, caring, responsible citizens is extremely rewarding, yet it requires a lot of time, talent and treasure,” said Sheahan. “We are very appreciative of the support we’ve received from Big 5 Sporting Goods and the Duke City Marathon.
“We hope to continue our partnership in providing great futures for New Mexico’s youth.”
In addition to collecting donations in their stores for the BGCCNM, Big 5 Sporting Goods also raised funds by donating a portion of proceeds to the BGCCNM using a discount card.
“Recognizing the many benefits that the Boys & Girls Clubs of New Mexico provide to local at-risk children, Big 5 Sporting Goods is thrilled to support the club with this Big 5 Duke City Marathon donation,” said Rick Gridley, director of public affairs for Big 5 Sporting Goods.
