Crime driving away visitors

-

SOMEONE IS going to have to step up and do something about all the crime in this city.

Almost every day we read about someone passing through Albuquerque and stopping for the night, and waking up to all their belongs stolen out of their car — and sometimes the car, too.

Our son and family from Arizona came through on their way to Utah for a skiing trip. His vehicle was full of ski equipment and clothes, and they had planned on staying the night.

After getting here, they decided because of all of our crime that they would rather drive on and stay somewhere else. They had heard of all the thefts that happen here.

We were disappointed, but understood.

My son said he didn’t want to park his SUV at the hotel he was staying at and take the chance of losing everything. They had reserved a very nice hotel, but we couldn’t convince them otherwise.

The sad thing is, this is all so true, people are catching on and not wanting to stay here overnight at any time.

So we lost our time with our son.

Just look at the revenue the city is losing because of this terrible problem — restaurants, hotels, and all the other places people would spend money.

They come for the balloon fiesta, and someone takes their truck and trailer; they travel through and overnight someone steals their pictures, cameras and anything else they can get their hands on. It doesn’t even have to be anything of value, these theives just take it.

No one should ever have to worry about coming into Albuquerque, that is just ridiculous.

When does it stop, when can we have peace of mind and not have to worry about our visitors?

I hope there will be a fix for this sooner than later — or is it already too late?
