STILL IN THE COUNTRY CLUB

Travis Tritt stays true to his roots after years of stardom

Travis Tritt is a different type of country singer.

The musician got his start in the 1980s and has managed to keep a career going strong.

Yet with all of his successes, he remains humble.

“I feel so humbled and blessed to be where I am right now,” he says during a recent interview. “The world has changed so much since I started. My voice is stronger than ever, and I’m working to become a better all-around musician. After all these years, I’m still excited to be making music.”

Tritt burst onto the music scene with his 1990 debut, “Country Club.”

He followed it up with “It’s All About to Change” and “T-R-O-UB-L-E” in 1992, which took him to mainstream success.

He’s been working on new music and plans to release an album soon.

Before that happens, Tritt has been touring in support of 2013’s “The Calm After ...” for the past two years.

Tritt remains influenced by Southern rock, blues and gospel and says it those genres will always be held close to him.

With “The Calm After …,” Tritt was able to reintroduce himself to the music world.

The album’s sessions yielded 14 finished recordings, with the two unreleased selections being Tritt’s take on the band Faces’ “Stay With Me” and the Patty Smyth-Don Henley duet “Sometimes Love Just Ain’t Enough.”

“When we were closing out the album, the timing was off because the scheduling just didn’t work out for the short list of women I thought had the soul to make that song special. So we basically shelved it,” he says.

Tritt eventually recorded the single with his daughter, Tyler Reese.

“I took her in the studio and had her sing the female parts,” he says. “I know I sound like a biased parent, but she really did nail it, and the proof is in the track.”
