Friend arrested for rape of teen boy

-

A Santa Fe man was recently charged with several counts of rape and sexual contact with a minor, and is free on an unsecured bond and GPS monitoring. Gary Thompson, born in 1961, was arrested Dec. 18 for allegedly abusing a 16-yearold male over the course of three weeks. Thompson, described as a friend of the teen’s family, was released from the Santa Fe County jail Jan. 6 on a $25,000 unsecured bond with GPS monitoring.

According to a Santa Fe police affidavit, the victim — along with his mother and other relatives — went to Solace Crisis Center in Santa Fe Dec. 18. The 16-year-old told a forensic interviewer he had stayed overnight with Thompson Monday through Wednesday for about three weeks in an arrangement to accommodate the teen’s evening driving classes and his mother’s early morning work hours.

The teen said Thompson “introduced” him to candy containing THC, the active ingredient in marijuana, and also smoked pot with him and gave him beer. Thompson had the 16-year-old and his 13-year-old brother clip Thompson’s medical marijuana plants, the older minor said.

He said Thompson once had him sniff what he described as an aphrodisiac and became upset when the child refused Thompson after he ran his hand up the teen’s leg. The abuse by Thompson included, among other sexual acts, a forceful rape, taking lewd photographs of the teen and tying the boy down to a bed using restraints. SFPD Detective Erik Ramirez reported that he saw a sexual restraining device near a bed when serving the search warrant and immediately took Thompson into custody. Police also found various sex toys and pornographic films, along with candy and sugar containing THC.
