UConn tunes up for showdown

STORRS, Conn. — Kia Nurse scored a season-high 20 points as top-ranked UConn routed East Carolina 92-46 on Saturday in the Huskies’ final tuneup before a showdown with No. 2 South Carolina.

Breanna Stewart had added 17 points and 10 rebounds for UConn (22-0, 12-0 American Athletic), which will head to Columbia on Monday with a 59-game winning streak, the third longest in team and NCAA history.

Moriah Jefferson chipped in with 16 points and dished out eight assists.

Jada Payne had 15 points and I’Tiana Taylor scored 12 to lead East Carolina (9-14, 3-8 American), which has lost four straight.

No. 4 BAYLOR 81, KANSAS

49: In Waco, Texas, Kalani Brown scored 18 points, fellow freshman Beatrice Mompremier had 14 points and 12 rebounds and Baylor won its 10th consecutiv­e Big 12 game.

The Lady Bears (23-1, 10-1 Big 12) never trailed after scoring the game’s first eight points, and led by at least double figures the rest of the game after Brown’s layup with just over 8 minutes left in the second quarter.

Alexis Prince scored 14 points in 24 minutes of her most extensive action since returning from arthroscop­ic surgery in November for torn meniscus in her right knee. Kylee Kopatich had 14 points to lead Kansas (5-18, 0-12).

No. 6 TEXAS 65, IOWA STATE 49: In Ames, Iowa, Ariel Atkins scored a career-high 22 points with 11 rebounds and Texas (21-1, 10-1 Big 12) improved to 9-0 on the road.

Jadda Buckley had 19 points to lead Iowa State (12-10, 4-7), which was outrebound­ed 20-5 on the offensive glass.

TEMPLE 68, No. 19 SOUTH FLORIDA 66: In Philadelph­ia, Erica Covile had 15 points and 10 rebounds, including the game-winning putback with one second left, and Temple (15-7, 9-2) moved past the Bulls into second place in the American Athletic Conference. Courtney Williams had 22 points and 10 rebounds for South Florida (16-6, 9-3), which couldn’t get off a lastsecond shot. The Bulls had won four straight.

No. 20 OKLAHOMA 77, TCU 64: In Norman, Okla., Vionise Pierre-Louis had 11 of her 14 points in the fourth quarter and Oklahoma (15-6, 6-4 Big 12) pulled away from TCU. Jada Butts’ 16 points led TCU (12-9, 4-6), which has lost five times to ranked teams in the last nine games, including Oklahoma twice.

BOISE STATE 61, AIR FORCE 48: In Boise, Idaho, Shalen Shaw had 15 points and 11 rebounds for her eighth double-double of the season as Boise State (16-6, 9-2) won its eighth straight. Dee Bennett led Air Force (0-22, 0-11) with 10 points.

UTAH STATE 84, WYOMING 75: In Logan, Utah., sophomore forward Funda Nakkasoglu scored 32 points and had eight assists for the Aggies (11-11, 6-5). Natalie Baker’s career-high 19 points led Wyoming (11-11, 4-8).

COLORADO STATE 64, NEVADA 37: In Reno, Nev., the Rams (20-1, 10-0) bolted out to an 11-0 lead and were never threatened. Los Lunas High alum Teige Zeller’s 14 points, tying her career high, led Nevada (4-17, 3-7).

FRESNO STATE 57, UNLV 52: In Las Vegas, Nev., Alex Furr led Fresno State (13-8, 8-1) with 14 points in the win over UNLV (13-9, 6-5), which had a game-high 18-point effort from Dakota Gonzalez.

ANGELO STATE 67, ENMU 53: In San Angelo, Texas, Kassandra Harris scored 14 points, albeit on 3-of-15 shooting, for Eastern (8-12, 3-7 Lone Star). Taylor Dorsey’s 18 points led ASU (15-5, 8-2).
