Martinez, Samuel Brother, FSC

March 20, 1936 - January 30, 2016 Brother Samuel was born in Santa Fe. At age 15 he left to attend high school in Lafayette, LA. He earned his Bachelor degree from St. Michaels College in Santa Fe and a Masters degree in Religion education From St. Thomas University in Texas. Brother Samuel has been a De La Salle Christian Brother for 60 years.

His career began as a teacher at De La Salle in New Orleans, LA, San Antonio, TX, and missionary work in the Philippine Islands. He held positions as teacher, principal, care-giver and Campus Minister.

He traveled around the world, starting in San Francisco to Hawaii, Japan, China, Australia, Philippine Islands, Turkey, Thailand, Greece, Egypt, Spain, France, England and back to the states in New York.

Brother Sam was preceded in death by his father and mother Sam and Juanita Martinez, brother and sister-inlaw David and Rose Martinez, brother Danny Martinez, and niece Sharon Honnell.

Brother Sam leaves three sisters - Barbara (Robert) Vail, Frances (Thomas) McCalmont, and Anna Martinez Medina; two brothers - Donald (Celina) Martinez, Michael (Linda) Martinez; and sister-in-law - Patty Martinez. Brother Sam also leaves a large family of uncles, aunts, nephews, nieces, cousins, and many, many friends who he considered his family.

A private funeral has been held by the Christian Brothers. The family invites you to join them in a "Celebratio­n of His Life" on Sunday, February 7th, at noon at Pecos Trail Cafe, 2239 Old Pecos Trail in Santa Fe, NM.
