SPORTS SPEAK UP!

- New Mexico State’s Matt Taylor, left, is defended by Northern New Mexico’s Marcus Ellis during the Aggies win Monday in the Santa Ana Star Center.

LADY GAGA stepped up, and Cam Newton stepped back.

CAM NEWTON billed himself as Superman all season, I guess that makes the Denver Defense Kryptonite

BORING GAME. Boring halftime show. Cam Newton said that “If people don’t like his dancing, then stop him.” Ask and ye shall receive dude. Someone really should’ve stopped the dancing done by Coldplay’s singer. And Thunder thigh Beyonce almost stopped her own “dancing” by falling. That woulda been the highlight of SB50.

LADY GAGA’S nailing of the National Anthem was by far the most outstanding part of the entire Super Bowl broadcast. I stood tall and proud soaking in her rendition of the Star Spangle Banner. Truly an inspiring moment.

SO SORRY I didnt get to see the superbowl on sunday. It’s getting so bad when channel 13 won’t show the game because no new mexico kids were on the roster.

I’LL ADD TO the Lady Lobos discussion after attending Saturday’s latest embarrassing loss. A new starter scores 4 quick points early in the game — and is immediately removed from the game. In the second half, an oft-injured senior hits 5 quick points to ignite a rally — and is immediately removed from the game. Why weren’t they allowed to continue their hot hands? I think they were fired up — not tired or making mistakes.

JPB WAS SPOT ON about the women’s program. It is difficult to watch a once outstanding program fall so far. We have some really good players who are being dragged down by a very negative coach.

GREAT EFFORT by the UNM Lobos against SDSU! The young men should be proud of how they played Saturday. Really looking forward to seeing the game against the Aztecs in the PIT. Also to the Lady Lobos, keep forging ahead and keep preparing for the MWC tournament!!! Your time is coming! BELIEVE!!!

WHAT’S UP WITH CBS Sports Network? The play-by-play announcer, analyst and team of four at the studio desk did not know the rule in regard to the controversial out of bounds play during the UNM-SDSU game, and a couple of them were praising the official for a great call. Some on this media team of “experts” have backgrounds in coaching and playing at the NCAA level, and one of them hosts a nationally syndicated sports talk show. CBSSN will be broadcasting 5 more Lobo regular season games and the MWC Tournament. We’ll hope for a better performance.

THANKS COACH and Lobos for the nice 3 game stretch ... who would’ve thought it? Wins over Boise and UNLV, incorrect call at SDS but almost win. No letdown guys. Am sure we’ll have to put up with some of the idiots on speakup. Blame Cullen for turnovers but he had 2. And poor coach Neal ... soon we’ll read that he is the cause of global warming and the national debt. If not him it’s Cullen’s fault.

COACH NEAL: The out of bounds play call at that juncture of the game speaks for itself. A time out was also not called when SDSU was on a run? SDSU won with layups (a 48-20 scoring advantage in the paint?) Why didn’t you stay in a packed-in zone against this woeful shooting Aztec team? And Obij Aget was on the bench for most of the last 5 minutes of the game and then the 5 minute overtime, too? Sorry, but this is not worthy of $1 million per year.

MAY I COMMENT on two things regarding the Lobo-Aztec game. Let us all be proud of Coach Neal’s comments regarding the blown inbounds call at the end of the game. No whining and moaning, just a classy response. Hope all the “Negos” feel some amount of embarrassment about their harsh narrative toward Coach Neal after the MWC indicated that the referee’s call was incorrect and the video replay clearly indicated a mistake on the part of the referee.

KUDOS TO UNM for hiring Shelby Pendley as an assistant coach for the Lobos softball team. Shelby is one of the best softball players to ever come out of New Mexico and to have her back at home passing her skills on to the Lobo Softball team is a blessing. Welcome home Shelby!
