Melrose to face Logan; Elida goes for another crown

BERNALILLO — Defending champion Melrose advanced to today’s championsh­ip game of the Class 2A girls basketball tournament.

The Buffaloes will take on top-seeded Logan in the 5:30 p.m. finale in the Pit.

No. 7 MELROSE 59, No. 3 TATUM 55:

In a rematch of last season’s final, the Buffaloes (20-9) got 18 points from senior Addisen Dial.

Senior Kansas Huysmans scored 15 points for the Coyotes (18-9).

Junior Reagan Carthel added 14 points and 14 rebounds, while junior Jaydan Beard contribute­d four assists for Melrose.

No. 1 LOGAN 49, No. 4 MAGDALENA 40:

Sophomore Kaylee Foote scored 18 points on 9-of-13 shooting to lead the Longhorns (23-7).

Logan led 22-12 at the half and limited the Steers to 29.1 percent shooting from the floor in the game.

Magdalena (24-7) was led by senior Lanique Apachita with 16 points.

Class 1A

Five-time defending champ Elida will try to add another crown when it plays Grady/ House today at 11:30 a.m. in the Pit in the title game.

No. 1 ELIDA 55, No. 4 SPRINGER 38:

Sophomore Kasyn Creighton scored 15 points as the Tigers (26-3) took control early.

Kara Burton went 8 of 12 from the field and scored 20 points for the Red Devils (15-12).

No. 2 GRADY/HOUSE 37, No. 3 CLIFF 22:

Jordyn Stowe scored 18 points and added nine rebounds as the Bronchos (20-10) reached the title game.

Yarahali Sotelo had 12 boards and Avery Lee recorded four assists for Grady/ House.

Valerie Overstreet scored eight points for Cliff (16-11).
