SPRING FORWARD
From ‘cholo goth’ and arts fest to theater, the scene’s heating up
At first glance, Leafar Seyer is intimidating.
With a body full of tattoos and a cuts-like-a-knife stare, it’s difficult to look past his image.
Yet the singer in “cholo goth” duo Prayers is sensitive. And music is his outlet. “My mind is full of so many ideas,” he says. “I listen closely to my emotions to make sure they don’t get the better of me.”
Prayers, the other member of which is Dave Parley, is on the cusp of mainstream success. The duo’s most recent album, “Young Gods,” was produced by Travis Barker of Blink-182.
The duo has been working with tattoo artist Kat Von D on a new single, which is almost ready to be released.
“We’ve been gaining ground with our music,” he says. “Though the music has always been for us. We started this project for us to have something to do. After a few albums, we have a lot of opportunities in our grasp.”
Prayers will be performing at Launchpad on Monday, March 14. To read more, see Page 24.
As the weather warms up, so do the number of events.
This week, the Rio Grande Arts and Crafts Festival will take place today through Sunday, March 13, at the New Mexico State Fairgrounds. Dozens of artists will be selling their work. See Pages 16-17 to read more.
Landmark Musicals will be opening its production of the Tony Award-winning classic “My Fair Lady” on Saturday, March 12. See Page 18 to read more.
