Drunken student in wrong house?

-

A Massachusetts college student who was arrested for drunkenly entering a home in Santa Fe simply made an unfortunate mistake, his attorney said. Stephen Aarons is disputing allegations that 22-year-old Garrett Curran started a physical fight when confronted by the homeowner.

Police say Curran, of Bolton, wandered into a home around 3 a.m. Saturday. He then fell asleep at the foot of a bed occupied by a 7-year-old girl. The child woke up and got her father.

Authorities allege Curran initiated a fight with the father, who held him down until police arrived. But he was not in a condition to fight, Aarons said. “He wasn’t in a condition to even stand up,” Aarons said.

Curran was booked on suspicion of breaking and entering, criminal trespass and child abuse for fighting in front of the girl. The Worcester Polytechnic Institute student was scheduled to be in Santa Fe for the next two months to work on a school project. He had been drinking with other students at another house before deciding to head back home. “He turned left one block too soon and thought he was in his own residence, and apparently walked right in the front door,” Aarons said.
