SAN DIEGO — Scot t Kazmir combined with three relievers on a two-hitter to win his first start with the Los Angeles Dodgers, who shut out the San Diego Padres for the second straight game, 3-0 Tuesday night.

Kazmir (1-0) and relievers Pedro Baez, Chris Hatcher and Kenley Jansen combined to retire 26 of the final 27 batters.

After Cory Spangenberg beat out an infield single to second with an out in the first, Kazmir retired his last 16 batters. Baez retired the side in the seventh, Hatcher retired the side in the eighth, and Jansen got two outs in the ninth before allowing Jon Jay’s infield single. Jansen struck out Spangenberg to record the save.

Kazmir struck out five and walked none.

On Monday night, LA won, 15-0.

RAYS 3, BLUE JAYS 2: In St. Petersburg, Fla., baseball’s new rule on breaking up double plays gave Tampa Bay a disputed victory over Toronto.

With the bases loaded and one out in the ninth inning, Toronto slugger Edwin Encarnacion hit a grounder to third base. After taking a throw from Evan Longoria for the force at second, Logan Forsythe made an errant relay to first that appeared to allow the go-ahead run to score for the Blue Jays.

Replay umpires in New York ruled that Jose Bautista did indeed slide inside the bag to illegally hinder Forsythe. The call was changed

to a game-ending double play that preserved Tampa Bay’s victory.

DIAMONDBACKS 11, ROCKIES 6: In Phoenix, Paul Goldschmidt drove in four runs with a solo homer and a bases-loaded triple, and Arizona stormed back from a four-run deficit to beat Colorado.

Ex-Albuquerque Isotope Trevor Story hit the third home run of his two-game major league career to start a six-run Colorado fourth against Shelby Miller, but Arizona pitchers blanked the Rockies for the other eight innings.

Nick Hundley hit a threerun homer and DJ LeMahieu had a two-run shot off Miller, acquired by Arizona in an offseason trade with Atlanta.

ASTROS 5, YANKEES 3: In New York, a freezing opening day at Yankee Stadium turned on a play that caused a hot argument.

Kansas City’s Carlos Correa reached on an eighthinning dribbler that Dellin Betances threw over first baseman Mark Teixeira as Jose Altuve scored the tiebreaking run as Houston beat New York to win four straight openers for the first time in franchise history.

Yankees manager Joe Girardi argued with plate umpire Dana DeMuth that Correa should have been called out for running on the fair side of the foul line.

After the umpires conferred, the call was upheld and Girardi played the remainder of the game under protest.

CUBS 6, ANGELS 1: In Anaheim, Calif., Jon Lester pitched seven strong innings in his season debut and Chicago got home runs from Anthony Rizzo, Dexter Fowler and Matt Szczur in a victory over Los Angeles.

Lester (1-0) allowed a run and four hits.

RED SOX 6, INDIANS 2: In Cleveland, David Price struck out 10 and won his weather-delayed debut for Boston, and David Ortiz hit a two-run homer to lead Boston past Cleveland.

Price (1-0) gave up two runs and five hits in six innings, giving the Red Sox an immediate payoff after they signed him to a $217 million, sevenyear contract. Ortiz hit his 504th career homer.

TIGERS 8, MARLINS 7 (11): In Miami, Ian Kinsler had four RBIs, including a runscoring single in the 11th inning, as Detroit overcame a ninth-inning meltdown to beat Miami.

The Tigers led 5-0 and RHP Justin Verlander didn’t allow a hit until the sixth inning, but new closer Francisco Rodriguez gave up three runs in the ninth, including two-out RBI doubles to pinchhitter Derek Dietrich and Dee Gordon.

PIRATES 6, CARDINALS 5: In Pittsburgh, Jordy Mercer singled home Gregory Polanco from second base with one out in the 11th inning to lift Pittsburgh past St. Louis.

Polanco drew a walk from Seth Maness (0-1) with one out and made it to second on Josh Harrison’s infield single. Mercer then slapped a single to right.

GIANTS 2, BREWERS 1: In Milwaukee, Johnny Cueto pitched seven solid innings in his San Francisco debut as the Giants beat Milwaukee.

METS 2, ROYALS 0: In Kansas City, Mo., Noah Syndergaard threw six scoreless innings and Neil Walker hit his first homer with the Mets as New York beat Kansas City.

MARINERS 10, RANGERS 2: In Arlington, Texas, Nelson Cruz hit one of four Seattle homers, and fellow former Texas player Leonys Martin had a tie-breaking double as the Mariners beat Texas.

WHITE SOX 5, ATHLETICS 4: In Oakland, Calif., Jimmy Rollins hit a two-out, basesempty homer in the top of the ninth to give Chicago a victory over Oakland.
