OUR PICKS FOR THE WEEK

- BY JACKIE JADRNAK

It’s irresistible to recommend Vivaldi’s “Four Seasons” for those seeking a springtime escape. Sometimes sprightly, sometimes sedate, the symphonic work covers all FOUR of the seasons, but that doesn’t matter, since spring in Santa Fe can feel like any one of them from day to day.

If only Vivaldi had included a separate movement dedicated to wind.

The Santa Fe Symphony is featuring Vivaldi’s popular work, along with Bach’s “Double Concerto for Violin and Oboe” in its concert at 7 p.m. Sunday at the Lensic Performing Arts Center, 211 W. San Francisco St. Tickets are $23-$80 and available from www.ticketssantafe.org, 988-1234 or by calling the Symphony box office at 983-1414.

GUITAR DAY: Also on Sunday, the New Mexico Museum of Art, 107 W. Palace Ave., is holding a fun party. You don’t have to sit still for this one — and it’s free! Community Guitar Day runs 1-4 p.m., and includes basic lessons, a talk about and look at rock posters (the music, not the stone — except maybe The Rolling Stones), and your own chance to show off your own licks (bring your own guitar) in an open-to-all jam. Can’t afford an instrument? Cipriano Frederico Vigil will show you how to make your own out of a cigar box.

WINDY CITY: Birds of Chicago is on a tour that will take them from the shores of Lake Michigan to the canals of the Netherlands, with some stops in the Southwest desert in between. The pair of Allison Russell and JT Nero draws on gospel roots, but with a secular flavor. They’re coming to the Skylight, 139 W. San Francisco St., at 7:30 p.m. Saturday to help launch their new album, “Real Midnight,” which is said to “alternate moody rock swagger with the ghostliest of soundscapes.” Tickets are $17 in advance or $22 on the day of show, available through holdmyticket.com or 505-886-1251.

SCI-FI OPERA: As in many operas, a love story is at the heart of “UnShakeable,” but it’s set in a landscape devastated by a viral pandemic that wipes out victims’ memories. With music by Performance Santa Fe’s Joseph Illick and lyrics by the Santa Fe Opera’s Andrea Fellows Walters, the work premieres 6 p.m. Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday at the Scottish Rite Center, 463 Paseo de Peralta. Tickets are $10, available through the Santa Fe Opera box office at 986-5900.

The opera, designed to help get people interested in the musical form, then heads off on a tour around the state, when admission will be free. In the north, you can get another look at the theater in Peñasco at 7 p.m. on Wednesday.

Jacquelyn Stucker, top, and Samuel Schultz, above, star in “UnShakeable.”
