WHAT’S ON DECK TODAY

-

FIRST TASTE OF COORS: Trevor Story is taking his long ball show to an unfamiliar place — home.

Coors Field figures to be a suitable fit for the Colorado Rockies rookie shortstop, even if the team did raise the fences this spring to keep more baseballs from flying out of the yard.

These days, it seems like nothing can prevent Story from going deep. He made major-league history in Arizona on Wednesday by becoming the first player to hit a homer in each of his first three games.

Next stop, a hitter friendly park that’s regarded as a slugger’s Shangri-La and one about which the former Isotope has heard plenty of stories.

“I’m just ready to get there and see what it’s all about,” said Story, whose team is 2-1 heading into the home opener against San Diego. “It will be special.”

YOUNG DODGER: RHP Ross Stripling makes his major league debut after skipping Triple-A altogether. A 2012 fifth-round draft pick out of Texas A&M, he went 3-6 with a 3.66 ERA pitching for Double-A Tulsa and Class-A Great Lakes last year.

“For me it’s just kind of telling him to enjoy the moment, go out there and be himself and compete. You’re here because you belong here,” manager Dave Roberts said.

BACK HOME: Eager to celebrate a scintillating 2015 season with their rejuvenated fans, Curtis Granderson, David Wright and the rest of the Mets face Philadelphia in their home opener. Former pennant-winning stars Rusty Staub, John Franco and Edgardo Alfonzo will be on hand to hoist the National League championship banner.

“I can’t wait,” catcher Travis d’Arnaud said. “To be in front of the best fans in the world and to be able to share a great year last year with all of them and to see that flag go up is going to be pretty magical.”
