DARK VISION
My Enemies & I aim to ‘push the bad down your throats’
Darkness, cynicism and despair exist in the world, and My Enemies & I provide a looking glass into this realm through its music. “Our creative process is affected by our surroundings and experiences and how we process these pieces,” guitarist Zach Jones said. “Personally, I see the negative side of things more often than not. I’m very cynical, so I question everything. So obviously our music and our message will sit more on the negative spectrum. I think if you listen carefully though, you will see that there’s a bigger story being told. As a band, we try to be unified in our beliefs, but we are humans and we don’t always agree. We all do stand behind our lyrical message though.”
Its recently released EP, “Sick World,” stemmed from a sinister place.
“When we wrote ‘Sick World,’ we were each going though our own dark times,” Jones said. “So dark that we all stopped feeling like ourselves and more like something had taken us over. It was like, I once was me but now he is gone. We felt like we were eaten alive by our problems and consumed whole with no escape in sight. At this point, we have come to embrace us and the sick world that we are a part of. This is where the idea for the album artwork comes from. The guy on the cover is being consumed by these dark, filthy hands, and that’s how we felt through the entire process of writing and recording ‘Sick World.’ ”
My Enemies & I challenges the world to get its head out of the clouds of social media and other distractions and think as individuals rather than accept what they are being fed.
“The world we live in is getting worse and worse by the second,” Jones said. “Social media makes us socially awkward and ignorant. The news, our government and our religion keep us suppressed and living in fear. New illnesses are created and distributed daily. The pills that are supposed to make us better are only making us more sick. The world is a (messed-) up place, and instead of embracing this idea, the public suppresses it and ignores it. We are a dumbed-down society, and it’s time to wake up. We are here to push the bad down your throats so it can’t be ignored. We are the plague vendors, and we strive to become too loud to ignore. We challenge you to think critically again and question everything.”
