RAP AND ROCK

Snoop Dogg, Wiz Khalifa, final Summerfest among highlights

- ADRIAN GOMEZ ARTS EDITOR

Wiz Khalifa and Snoop Dogg are like brothers.

This is the reason the two rap stars paired up for a summer tour. “This is going to be cool,” he says. “It’s going to be fun because we’re going to really have a dope experience behind the scene as well as on stage.”

The rap stars will be in the Duke City on Tuesday, Aug. 23, for a show at Isleta Amphitheater.

Wiz Khalifa has been in the music industry for a decade and has topped the charts. Looking back, he’s proud of his journey. “I’m really happy where I’m at and being that I’ve been 10 years in the game,” he says. “My goal, since I was younger, was to always be able to reinvent myself, and I think that with the time that I’ve been doing this, I’ve done a great job of inventing and reinventing, and I still give people a lot of hope for what’s next, so I’m happy.” To read more on Wiz Khalifa, see Page 22. School is in session, and the city of Albuquerque will be hosting West Side Summerfest — the final in the summer series. Staff writer Rozanna M. Martinez caught up with the event’s headliners, Big Head Todd and the Monsters, to talk music. See Page 23 to read more.

Are you a fan of Stanley Kubrick or Quentin Tarantino? Downtown Contemporary Gallery will be opening its latest art show. Organziners gave 30 local artists a chance to create a piece inspired by either of the directors. See Page 18, to read more.

There’s plenty more inside this week’s issue. Be sure to check out the dining reviews beginning on Page 4. And on Pages 16 and 17, I take a look at the buzzworthy movie “Hell or High Water,” filmed in New Mexico.
