EIGHT ABQ FIRMS TO COMPETE FOR $100K PRIZE
Eight Albuquerque startups have been chosen to compete for a $100,000 investment from AOL co-founder Steve Case as part of the Rise of the Rest competition on Oct. 6.
The finalists announced in a news release Wednesday are:
Albuquerque Sol FC, which seeks to elevate the game of soccer in Albuquerque and bring professional soccer to the city.
BabyPage, an online and mobile platform that helps parents track their children’s milestones and create a modern baby book along the way.
DermaTec, which uses biochemical technologies to reduce the rate of drunken driving and irresponsible drinking.
EquiSeq, which analyzes the genetic material of horses to improve breeding.
innoBright Technologies Inc., which has created software that dramatically reduces the time and cost in creating quality renderings and other computer-generated imagery.
Pressure Analysis Co., which has created SmackCap, a skullcap that detects impact in real time for youth football players.
ScoreStik, which has created low-cost scoreboard technology that can be operated from a computer or mobile device.
Slipstream ZLD, which has created a fully automated and efficient wastewater evaporator and crystallizer package that takes untreated waste and provides pure distilled water to reuse.
The public is invited to the pitch competition, where the startups will present five-minute pitches to Case and a panel of judges. The competition will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Oct. 6 at the KiMo Theatre. Albuquerque is among five Western cities selected to participate in this year’s Rise of the West bus tour. The tour will also stop in Omaha/ Lincoln, Neb., Denver, Salt Lake City and Phoenix.
“Rise of the Rest” is an initiative from the Case Foundation and Revolution, an investment fund created by Case to promote the idea of startup activity outside the nation’s main tech hubs.
