Argentine folk-rap trio Fémina touring U.S. for first time
For a dozen years, ¡Globalquerque! has brought in rising international stars to the Duke City. This year is chock-full of them. During the two-day event at the National Hispanic Cultural Center, visitors will get to see more than a dozen artists.
One of those will be the Buenos Aires, Argentina, trio Fémina, which is touring the United States for the first time.
The rap-folk fusion group, which consists of Clara and Sofia Trucco and Clara Miglioli, will perform at 6:20 tonight on the Plaza Mayor at the NHCC.
And the group is gearing up to release its third album soon.
“We’ve always wanted to come to the States,” Sofia Trucco says during an interview from Iowa. “We’ve talked about it, and we’re making it happen. Our first show was in Chicago, and they gave us a warm welcome.”
“We have the demos, and everything is composed,” she says. “Now is the moment to produce, and we’re thinking about the strategy to choose if we are going to do an EP or a full album.”
The three women work together to compose the lyrics — though the process varies from time to time.
“There are discussions about the songs,” she says. “We all have very different points of view and are free to express them within the band. Each one of us has our own projects, but we become a power when the three of us are together. There are three heads and three hearts, and we’re looking to make the best music we can.”
Trucco says that over the past two years, the band has set goals.
The first was to tour in Europe and then last year, it was a tour in Mexico.
“This year, our goal was to be in the United States,” she says. “We are fans of the music, and we are enjoying the scenery. It’s very different than what we are used to. This show in Albuquerque will be amazing because the culture is so rich, we’ve heard.”
