Disney on Ice show takes a journey to four timeless worlds

- BY ADRIAN GOMEZ

Mickey and Minnie Mouse are always up for adventures.

And in “Disney on Ice: Passport to Adventure,” the cartoon icons travel to four timeless worlds.

From the African pride lands with Simba, Timon and Pumbaa to deep under the sea with Ariel or London with Peter Pan, Wendy and Tinkerbell to Arendelle, where Elsa and Anna await with Olaf, the production is sure to capture the imagination of all.

Mai Takiguchi has been with the show for about three years as part of the ensemble cast.

She has performed more than 100 shows and enjoys being on the ice.

“There’s so much that goes into the show,” she says. “We practice for a good amount of the day, especially the ensemble numbers. We have plenty of skaters on the ice, and we need to know exactly where each one of us is.”

Takiguchi began skating when she was 5 years old.

She competed competitively until around high school, and she never wanted to hang up her skates.

“There’s a lot of beauty in skating,” she says. “Being part of this show, we’re able to capture the imagination of the audience.”

There are 30 performers in the show, Takiguchi says, and when the cast members aren’t traveling, they get a chance to sightsee.

“Depending on the day, we rehearse from six to eight hours a day,” she says. “I’ve never been to Albuquerque before, and I’m looking forward to seeing the city.”

Though she’s part of the ensemble cast, Takiguchi does have a character in mind that she would love to be in the production.

“Every girl wants to be a princess,” she says. “I’d go for any of them.”
