A survivor’s tale spans multiple tragedies

AT BOOKWORKS: Phyllis Skoy will discuss “What Survives” at 3 today.

Adalet Ulusoy is recovering from severe burns to her legs, the death of her parents and the loss of her unborn child resulting from a massive earthquake on the Black Sea Coast of Turkey. Through love, mentorship and the horrifying events of Sept. 11, her life is forever changed.

Charlene Dietz will discuss “The Flapper, the Scientist, and the Saboteur” at 6 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 29.

The book is an espionage mystery that intrudes into a family, creating a generation­al battle of wills. A Denver biomedical scientist wrestles with the impossible choice of saving her sabotaged, groundbrea­king cure for multiple sclerosis or honoring an obligation to care for her cantankero­us ex-flapper aunt.

Pauline Ts’o will read and sign her children’s book “Whispers of the Wolf” at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 1. A young boy named Two Birds found the abandoned wolf pup in a cave, and they grew up together.

Elizabeth Jacobson will read from her poetry collection “A Brown Stone” at 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 1.

Catherine Bowman also will read from her new collection “Can I Finish Please?”

AT COLLECTED WORKS: Michael Scofield will sign “Dedicated Lives” at 3 p.m. today.

Scofield’s book honors the legions of Americans dedicating their lives to helping others. The representa­tive 13 in-depth talks with 14 people took place in Santa Fe.

Michael Shuman will talk about “Local Dollars, Local Sense and Local Economy Solution” at 5:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 26.

Shuman shows investors, including the nearly 99 percent who are unaccredit­ed, how to put their money into building local businesses and resilient regional economies and profit in the process.

Roxanne Swentzell and Patricia M. Perea will sign “The Pueblo Food Experience Cookbook” at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 28.

The event will take place on the front sidewalk underneath the shopping center’s upstairs balcony. Authors do not need reservatio­ns, but they should bring change and/or credit card readers for their sales.
