Redskins’ Hall out for the season; Broncos’ Siemian silences his critics

- ASSOCIATED PRESS PATRIOTS:

WASHINGTON — If Washington Redskins safety DeAngelo Hall’s season-ending injury might lead others to suspect the playmaking defensive back’s 13-year NFL career is over, he was adamant Monday that won’t be the case.

“I’ll be back,” Hall tweeted , adding: “you can bet your life on that !!!!!!! ”

Hall will miss the rest of this season with a torn ligament in his right knee, the third consecutive year the veteran will miss time with an injury. Redskins coach Jay Gruden said Monday that Hall needed surgery on his ACL.

“It’s pretty significant,” Gruden said.

“From a leadership standpoint, ‘D-Hall’ has done a lot for this organization, a lot for this team,” the coach said. “He’s going to be missed.”

Hall, who turns 33 in November, was hurt in the first half of Washington’s 29-27 victory at the NFC East rival New York Giants on Sunday.

BRONCOS: There won’t be any griping from Trevor Siemian’s critics this week, Emmanuel Sanders and Demaryius Thomas included.

In leading Denver (3-0) to a 29-17 win at Cincinnati on Sunday, Siemian became the first quarterback in NFL history to throw for 300 yards and four touchdowns without an interception in his first road start.

When coach Gary Kubiak awarded him a game ball in the jubilant locker room at Paul Brown Stadium afterward, Siemian’s teammates acted like they’d just won the lottery.

“That’s just the type of team that we got, just wild, crazy guys,” said Von Miller, who’s sure this was just the first of many accolades coming Siemian’s way.

Siemian quieted his pair of Pro Bowl receivers who griped last week about not being targeted enough.

“It wasn’t frustration, we just know what we are capable of doing on the field,” said Sanders, who had nine receptions for 117 yards and his first two touchdowns of the season Sunday. “We’re the best that does it with the 1-2 punch.”

SEAHAWKS: Quarterback Russell Wilson has a sprained MCL in his left knee and coach Pete Carroll raised the possibility on Monday of Wilson missing the Week 4 game against the New York Jets.

Carroll said during his weekly radio show on KIROAM on Monday morning that Wilson “feels great” and that his recovery is already going “exceedingly well.”

Wilson underwent an MRI on Sunday night that confirmed the ligament sprain and Wilson received treatment all night, Carroll said.

CHARGERS: Linebacker Manti Te’o will miss the rest of the season with a torn left Achilles tendon.

Te’o, a fourth-year linebacker from Notre Dame, was hurt in Sunday’s 26-22 loss at Indianapolis.

JETS: The Jets have claimed tight end Austin Seferian-Jenkins off waivers from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, who cut him last week after he was arrested on suspicion of driving while under the influence.

EAGLES: Carson Wentz has already been compared to Aaron Rodgers, Brett Favre and Peyton Manning, the defense is dominating, and the Philadelphia Eagles are 3-0.

No one saw this coming except maybe coach Doug Pederson.

“I told the team way back in OTAs that it just takes a little bit of belief; belief in themselves, trust the process, believe in the coaches and the coaches believe in one another,” Pederson said. “Am I surprised? A little. But at the same time, I know that locker room, I know those guys and I know what they are building. By no means have we accomplished anything yet, the season is still extremely young. But what they did (against Pittsburgh) just proves that they are coming together as a football team.”

Coach Bill Belichick remains mum on his team’s quarterback situation ahead of its game against division rival Buffalo this week.

Belichick declined to provide updates Monday on the health of Jimmy Garoppolo or rookie Jacoby Brissett, both of whom may be unavailable. Franchise quarterback Tom Brady will be serving the last game of his four-game “Deflategate” suspension.

Belichick wasn’t as tightlipped about facing a challenging Bills rushing attack anchored by four-time Pro Bowl running back LeSean McCoy.

“McCoy is as good as it gets,” Belichick told reporters in a conference call. “The production that he has had is outstanding.”
