SPEAKUP! !?!

-

A REMINDER to those “super-busy, selfimportant” drivers who blatantly run stop signs and red lights. I might not be able to slam to a stop every time and you will get a hefty bill for my German-made SUV and my injuries. It’s getting old, people. — D.L. A CITY COUNCILOR wants to consolidate city and county governments, but split up the APS school district. How does that make sense? — L.H. GET THE FEDERAL government and unions out of education! — J.K.A. I HOPE OIL keeps getting hit hard with recessions so we can wean ourselves off of our dependency on oil and stop using oil once and for all. There already are much cleaner and safer methods of energy and fuel that we need to start shifting towards ASAP. — K.K. THE EPIDEMIC of vehicle thefts in Albuquerque will continue until someone with authority takes it seriously and does something meaningful. — F.A. WILL THE UNIVERSITY of New Mexico now pay service fees when they pay by credit card since they are charging students service fees when they pay them by credit card? Seems only fair. ---E.C.E I TRULY BELIEVE we could begin to solve a lot of our social problems — but not all — if we started to persistently pursue the answer to the questions, “Where is the father of this child and why is he missing from this story?” — D.K. WE NEED TO end the war on drugs first and foremost. Then we need to treat drug users as patients instead of criminals. — J.R. DEAR APS transfer students: If you want to attend my neighborhood schools, move into district and pay my property taxes. Sincerely, “a frustrated parent.” — J.R. MEXICO IS considered a failed state due to corruption and illicit drugs. Albuquerque has become a failed city for the same reasons. — E.C. ALEPPO ISN’T an animal — it’s not a cross between a leopard and a hippo. Aleppo is a town in Syria on the brink of extinction. The world needs to come together to help save Aleppo and its children. — P.J.S. GOTTA LOVE the comments on El Paso Electric no longer using coal. Their power generation sources include 66 percent natural gas, 30 percent from the Palo Verde nuclear plant — that was said to be a bad choice by PNM — and a whopping 4 percent from solar. WOW! The hypocrisy towards PNM is almost amusing. — J.E.H. SO IDIOTS AND insane people can now vote — legally. Better print more ballots and open more polling places! — C.M.T. I SUSPECT OR hope LANL will inform the command ranks of the airport police and TSA next time they have an employee taking a mock up device to a convention prior to entering the airport security screening area. LANL needs to respect other agencies’ procedures. — D.E. THE NUMBER of effective teachers is not dropping. Just test scores. The two do not correlate. — L.C. CANDIDATES ARE mortal. Time to give serious thought to the vice presidential selections. Let’s really look at their curriculum vitae. Which one has the greater depth of experience and proven track record. They really will live one heartbeat away from the Oval Office. — R.B.C. I’M JUST GLAD the Republican Party has finally started paying attention to women’s health. I mean, it’s only the first woman in 240 years to get this far — Hillary Clinton, but it’s a start. — B.F. THE POLICE ARE utterly out of control, the banks are corrupt and I don’t see our government protecting us. When our safety and resources are in the hands of criminals, there is no rule of law. — K.S.
