Buckwald, Evelyn M. Powell

Evelyn M. Powell Buckwald passed away August 28, 2016 at home in Los Lunas, NM. She was born May 7, 1921 and was 95 years old.

Evelyn was born in Chicago, IL to Jacob and Catherine (Ilmberger) Breitsameter. Her parents immigrated from Germany and taught her German in addition to English. She attended Catholic schools followed by secretarial college. She was the first in her family to attend school beyond high school. Evelyn lived most of her adult life in Albuquerque, where she worked as a medical secretary and medical transcriptionist. She also worked at Kirtland Air Force Base where she met and married Neil Powell.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, Jacob and Catherine, her infant twin sister, Matilda and her older sister, Anna (Kurt) Spitzmueller and brother-in-law, Kurt. Also by husband Neil in 1963. She later married Elmer Buckwald and was preceded in death by him, too.

Evelyn is survived by a nephew and a two nieces, Mark (Nancy) Spitzmueller of NM. Pamela Spitzmueller lives in MA. Claudia (Mark) Johnson of NM also. Evelyn had a life-long love for dogs and almost always had a dog. Her favorites were English Springer Spaniels, which she showed in obedience trials. She also loved Snoopy, Charlie Brown, roses, M & Ms, cookies and her family. She never forgot our birthdays or Christmas.
