Harry Elwood White, 91, passed away of natural causes September 22, 2016, at his home in Glenwood, NM. He was born September 20, 1925 in Le Roy, NY. Harry was a veteran and served in the U.S. Air Corps in World War II.

He and his wife, Elzear "Ellie" Wilkin White, moved to Albuquerqu­e in 1956. He was a salesman for Rocky Mountain Wholesaler­s and American Greetings Corporatio­n. Harry was a passionate outdoorsma­n & he will be best remembered by his children and neighborho­od friends as a scout leader who took them camping and hiking throughout his beloved mountains. Harry was a New York State cross country champion in his youth and inspired many with his numerous age group championsh­ips at the La Luz Trail Run.

Harry and Ellie relocated to Glenwood, NM in 1990. In retirement, he served Catron County as a volunteer search, rescue and fire fighter. For his expertise mapping trails of the Gila Wilderness, in 1999, he was awarded the U.S. Forest Service National Volunteer of the Year. He was also the honored ribbon cutter for the 2016 Memorial Day weekend re-opening of the Catwalk National Recreation Trail. Harry learned to play the flute and serenaded church and community events.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Ellie and granddaugh­ter, Bonnie Gibson. He is survived by his loving family: daughter, Ellen Deborah Salazar; daughter, Amy Springer (Tom); son, Tom White (Catalina); son, David White (Cynthia); son, Marcus White (Michelle); by grandchild­ren Connie, Rory, Ashley, Zachary, Dillon, Ella, Whitney, Baileya, Jasmine, Kyrsten, and Olivia; and great grandchild­ren Jesse, Shiann, Shauni, Garrett, Aiden, Azalea and Ryden.

A memorial service will be held in Glenwood, NM, at the Community Center, 11:00 a.m. on Saturday October, 15, 2016.
