Oklahoma beats Texas Tech 66-59 in a game that sets an NCAA record for yardage

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Jonathan Allen returned a fumble 30 yards for a touchdown late in the third quarter to help No. 1 Alabama beat sixth-ranked Texas A&M 33-14 Saturday. The Crimson Tide (8-0, 5-0 Southeaste­rn Conference) moved on as the powerhouse league’s last unbeaten team, getting yet another in a long string of defensive scores. Allen, a lineman, scooped up the ball after Ryan Anderson knocked it loose from Keith Ford to finally build a cushion over the Aggies (6-1, 4-1), who led 14-13 well into the third. It was 20-14 when Allen extended Alabama’s streak to 10 games with a score on defense or special teams, half the duration of a winning streak now at 20. A&M plays host to NMSU on Saturday. No. 3 MICHIGAN 41, ILLINOIS 8: In Ann Arbor, Mich., Wilton Speight threw for 253 yards and two TDs in three quarters as the Wolverines (7-0, 4-0 Big Ten) beat the Fighting Illini (2-5, 1-3). NO. 7 LOUISVILLE 54, NORTH CAROLINA STATE 13: In Louisville, Ky., Lamar Jackson broke Louisville’s single-season record with a hand in four first-half touchdowns, and the Cardinals (6-1, 4-1 ACC) had three intercepti­ons in routing the overmatche­d Wolf Pack (4-3, 1-2). Jackson threw three touchdown passes and had a 36-yard scoring run, giving him 34 TDs with five games to play. No. 8 NEBRASKA 27, PURDUE 14: In Lincoln, Neb., Tommy Armstrong Jr. accounted for 303 yards of total offense and two touchdowns for the Cornhusker­s (7-0, 4-0 Big Ten). Purdue (3-4, 1-3) managed only 94 yards in the second half. No. 10 WISCONSIN 17, IOWA 9: In Iowa City, Iowa, Corey Clement ran for 134 yards and a touchdown and Wisconsin (5-2, 2-2 Big Ten) won for the fourth straight time in Iowa City. The Badgers held the Hawkeyes (5-3, 3-2) without a touchdown for the first time all season. SMU 38, No. 11 HOUSTON 16: In Dallas, Ben Hicks threw for three touchdowns and ran for another score and the Mustangs (3-4, 1-2 American Athletic) shocked the Cougars (6-2, 3-2), who were ranked sixth in the country after a 5-0 start and a victory against then-No. 3 Oklahoma. No. 12 W. VIRGINIA 34, TCU 10: In Morgantown, W.Va., Skyler Howard threw four touchdown passes and the Mountainee­rs (6-0, 3-0 Big 12) held TCU (4-3, 2-2) scoreless in the second half. No. 16 OKLAHOMA 66, TEXAS TECH 59: In Lubbock, Texas, Baker Mayfield had seven touchdown passes and 545 yards for Oklahoma (5-2, 4-0 Big 12) in the game that broke the NCAA record for combined offensive yards with 1,708 yards. Pat Mahomes threw for five touchdowns and 734 yards for Texas Tech (3-4, 1-3). His passing yards tied the NCAA record. No. 19 UTAH 52, UCLA 45: In Pasadena, Calif., Joe Williams rushed for a school-record 332 yards and four touchdowns for the Utes (7-1, 4-1 Pac-12). Mike Fafaul also set UCLA records for pass attempts (70) and completion­s (40), while throwing for five touchdown passes and four intercepti­ons for the Bruins (3-5, 1-4). No. 20 W. MICHIGAN 45, E. MICHIGAN 31: In Kalamazoo, Mich., Zach Terrell threw for 398 yards and three touchdowns and the Broncos (8-0, 4-0 Mid-American) had 569 yards of total offense. Eastern Michigan (5-3, 2-2) led 17-14, the first time the Broncos have trailed at home this season. No. 22 NORTH CAROLINA 35, VIRGINIA 14: In Charlottes­ville, Va., Mitch Trubisky threw three touchdown passes and North Carolina (6-2, 4-1 ACC) limited Virginia to one trick-play touchdown until the fourth quarter. No. 25 LSU 38, No. 23 MISSISSIPP­I 23: In Baton Rouge, La., Leonard Fournette broke LSU’s single-game rushing record on just his first eight carries — scoring three touchdowns of 59 yards or more — for the Tigers (5-2, 3-1 SEC). Fournette finished with 284 yards rushing in his first action since aggravatin­g a left ankle injury on Sept. 24. The Rebels are 3-4, 1-3. No. 24 NAVY 42, MEMPHIS 28: In Annapolis, Md., Will Worth rushed for a career-high 201 yards and three touchdowns, and the Midshipmen (5-1, 4-0 American Athletic) won their 14th straight at home. Memphis is 5-2, 2-1.

ENMU 62, BACONE 0: In Portales, Eastern New Mexico quarterbac­k Wyatt Strand tossed two touchdown passes and ran for two touchdowns for the Greyhounds (5-4), who held Bacone College (2-6) to three first downs while racing to a 49-0 halftime lead. It was ENMU’s first home shutout win since 2004. FORT LEWIS 52, WNMU 14: In Durango, Colo., Valley High alum Bo Coleman threw for 233 yards and five touchdowns to spark Fort Lewis (2-6), which scored five unanswered touchdowns after the Mustangs (2-6) trailed only 17-14 at the half. Xavier Ayers caught TD passes of 8 and 12 yards from Javia Hall for Western New Mexico. WESTERN STATE 58, N.M. HIGHLANDS 0: In Las Vegas, N.M., Western (6-2, 6-2 RMAC) had 703 yards and 38 first downs against the Cowboys (0-8, 0-7). COLO. STATE 42, UNLV 23: In Las Vegas, Nick Stevens threw two TDs and the Rams (4-4, 2-2) led 35-0 at halftime and ripped the Rebels (3-5, 2-2). SAN DIEGO ST. 42, SAN JOSE ST. 3: In San Diego on Friday, Donnel Pumphrey Jr. ran for 135 yards and two TDs for coach Rocky Long’s Aztecs (6-1, 3-0 Mountain West). The Spartans are 2-6, 1-3.
