LeBron gets wish: free ice cream for Cavs fans

-

CLEVELAND — What the King wants, the King gets.

So thanks to LeBron James, ice cream will be on the dessert menu for Cleveland’s big night.

James and his Cavaliers teammates are to receive their championship rings Tuesday night and raise a title banner in Quicken Loans Arena at about the same time the Indians throw the first pitch in Game 1 of the World Series next door at Progressive Field.

James was asked last week if there was anything that could make this better. He said: “I don’t know, having an ice cream truck outside both arenas at the same time as well — icing on the cake.”

On Monday, Blue Bunny Ice Cream granted King James’ wish. It announced it will have a truck outside the arena to hand out free ice cream to fans.

Last week, the NBA said the Cavs’ home opener against the New York Knicks will start 30 minutes earlier to make it easier for fans who want to enjoy both events.

LAKERS: The Lakers waived Yi Jianlian at the Chinese forward’s request.

The Lakers also waived forward Anthony Brown and apparently kept Metta World Peace on their opening night roster.

Yi returned to the NBA last month after a four-year absence in an attempt to win a job with the Lakers. The 7-footer was the sixth overall pick in the 2007 draft.

Yi averaged 3.0 points and 2.5 rebounds during the preseason.

The surprising moves mean World Peace and journeyman Thomas Robinson likely have made the opening roster.

GRIZZLIES: Memphis has given up on its first-round draft pick from 2014, waiving guard Jordan Adams in their moves to trim their roster for the regular season.

The 6-foot-5, 209-pound Adams played in just 32 games over two seasons with the Grizzlies because of injuries, and he averaged 3.2 points and 8.2 minutes in those games. Adams had knee surgery this summer. Memphis took him with the 22nd pick overall out of UCLA in 2014.

LEDLOW: NBA TV personality Kristen Ledlow says she was robbed at gunpoint at her home.

The host of “NBA Inside Stuff” said on Twitter and Instagram Sunday that she was held up the day before “by three men who knew who I was, where I lived and were waiting for me when I got home.”

MVP: Stephen Curry has a chance to be the fourth backto-back-to-back MVP in NBA history, joining Bill Russell (1961-63), Wilt Chamberlain (1966-68) and Larry Bird (1984-86).
