CATCHES OF THE WEEK

Gavin Whaler, 10, of Santa Fe caught a 21-inch rainbow trout Nov. 23. at Monastery Lake. He was using PowerBait.

Wayne Garcia of Albuquerqu­e caught and released a 14-inch largemouth bass Nov. 25 at the Albuquerqu­e Drain. He was using a live 7-inch white sucker.

AROUND THE STATE

SAN JUAN RIVER: Streamflow on the San Juan from Navajo Reservoir on Monday was 344 cfs but is scheduled to be reduced from to 250 cfs today around 3 p.m. This temporary lower release is made in collaborat­ion with the San Juan River Basin Recovery Implementa­tion Program for an in-stream project. The release will be increased to 305 cfs starting at 8 a.m. on Wednesday.

NOTES from GAME & FISH: Trout fishing on the SAN JUAN RIVER through the quality waters section was fair using small bunny leeches, assorted midge patterns, beadhead pheasant tail nymphs and BWOs. Dry fly action was sporadic. Fishing through the bait section was fair to good using spinners, small streamers, San Juan worms, gold spoons, PowerBait, worms and salmon eggs for trout.

Fishing at NAVAJO LAKE was slow to fair using senkos, grubs, jigs, swim baits and small plastic worms for smallmouth and largemouth bass. Fishing was fair using swim baits and grubs for northern pike.

Water flow on the ANIMAS RIVER near Aztec on Monday morning was 282 cfs. Fishing was fair using PowerBait and salmon eggs for trout.

At BLUEWATER LAKE, fishing was fair using PowerBait, homemade dough bait, salmon eggs, worms and spinners for trout.

Fishing at TINGLEY BEACH’S Central and Youth Ponds was very good using San Juan worms, egg patterns, meal worms, PowerBait, salmon eggs and worms for trout. A few trout were also caught by anglers using spinners and small spoons. Trout fishing at the Bob Gerding Catch and Release Pond was good using San Juan worms, chamois leeches, egg patterns and small streamers.

Fishing at the ALBUQUERQU­E AREA DRAINS was good using PowerBait, worms under a bobber, mealworms, salmon eggs and small streamers for trout.

At FENTON LAKE, fishing was good using mealworms, PowerBait and salmon eggs for trout.

Streamflow on the JEMEZ RIVER near Jemez Springs on Monday morning was 27 cfs. Fishing on the Jemez was good using salmon eggs, San Juan worms and copper John Barrs for trout.

Monday morning water flows on the CHAMA RIVER below El Vado and Abiquiu were 198 cfs and 261 cfs respective­ly. Fishing below El Vado was good using San Juan worms, copper John Barrs, prince nymphs, woolly buggers, small jigs, worms, PowerBait and salmon eggs for brown, cutthroat and rainbow trout. Fishing below Abiquiu was good using woolly buggers, copper John Barrs, egg patterns, small midge patterns, San Juan worms, PowerBait, salmon eggs and worms for rainbow and brown trout.

Fishing at UTE LAKE was good jigging in 40 to 48 feet of water for walleye. Fishing for white bass was fair to good using blade baits and spoons in 35 to 40 feet of water for white bass.

At MONASTERY LAKE, fishing was good using egg patterns, PowerBait, salmon eggs and worms under a bobber for trout.

Streamflow on the PECOS RIVER on Monday was 32 cfs. Trout fishing was fair to good using micromays, prince nymphs, salmon eggs, PowerBait and worms.

Streamflow on the RIO GRANDE on Monday at the Taos Junction Bridge was 606 cfs. Fishing slowed with the higher water levels, but a few trout were caught by anglers using worms and PowerBait.

Fishing at STORRIE LAKE was fair to good using salmon peach PowerBait for trout. Fishing pressure was light.

Bank fishing at EAGLE NEST LAKE was rated as slow to fair for anglers using PowerBait for trout. The boat courtesy docks have been taken removed for the winter months.

Fishing at ELEPHANT BUTTE LAKE was slow to fair using worms, senkos, jigs and grubs for smallmouth bass and largemouth bass. Night fishing for catfish was fair using beef liver, chicken liver and homemade dough bait.

At PERCH LAKE, fishing was very good using Pistol Petes, salmon eggs, homemade dough bait and PowerBait for trout.
