Charges dropped in internet embezzlement case

Lack of evidence reason for dismissal

All charges against a former employee of a Rio Rancho internet service company, including embezzlement and extortion, were dismissed this fall due to a lack of evidence, according to court documents.

The 13th Judicial District Attorney’s Office dropped the six charges against former Roadrunner Wireless Internet Service employee Gordon Logan in September.

According to the notice of dismissal signed by Assistant District Attorney Sean Fitting, “there is insufficient evidence to continue with prosecution.”

Logan was fired from Roadrunner Wireless in August 2015 after being accused of changing pass codes, re-routing email systems, altering phone numbers and stealing business equipment.

In November 2015, Logan was arrested following an investigation by the Rio Rancho Police Department.

In March, a grand jury charged Logan with embezzlement over $2,500, computer abuse over $20,000, computer access with intent to defraud or embezzle over $20,000, unauthorized computer use over $20,000, extortion and non-residential burglary.

Due to an illness he’s suffered throughout the past year, Logan said he’s unsure of his future.

“I don’t know what to do at this point because I’m still working on my health issues,” he said.

A separate civil case filed by Roadrunner Wireless against Logan for alleged contract and negligent misrepresentation is pending.
