RR a winner for schools, sports, parks

Congratulations, Rio Rancho! Rio Rancho Public Schools has once again shown us what an excellent job it is doing. Everyone in the city is so impressed that the district has, for the fifth year in a row, earned a B grade in the state’s performance evaluation. Great job. And, considering no large school districts received an A grade, it’s even more impressive.

It is obvious that the district’s teachers, administrators and staff have worked diligently, and their efforts have paid off. We applaud them and, on behalf of our children, thank them for the future they are giving our kids. In addition, the parents and children deserve kudos for their hard work and dedication.

We believe our district personnel should enjoy their success; the time will come — soon enough — to deal with the “We can do better.” For now, just be proud. Hold your head high and accept the accolades, for they are deserved.

The Rio Rancho High School football team also deserves high praise for the state championship it won last week after an undefeated season. What a season, and what a victory! But also, what a dynasty we are creating in Rio Rancho. The RRHS Rams won the state championship in 2014, the Cleveland High School Storm won it in 2015 and the Rams again in 2016.

The coaches, staff and players deserve an amazing amount of credit, as do the parents, the school staff and the students. We admire the tenacity, the commitment and the skill that it takes to win that many games. And we applaud the ability a sports team has to bring such pride and fun to a school community.

Because football is such a visible and popular sport, it’s easy to focus on it, but we also want to praise all the “wins” that Rio Rancho students have had — all of which are a result of hard work, dedication and talent — in sports, but in many other areas also. This is an awesome school district, and its staff, students and community all deserve praise.

On a slightly different subject, we want to join the readers of Albuquerque The Magazine and say that Rio Rancho’s A Park Above is truly the best and we applaud them for the recognition they deserve. A Park Above — or, as the little ones in our family call it, the Butterfly Park — is phenomenal, and can be enjoyed and experienced by everyone.

We also, somewhat selfishly, thought it was exciting to have a Rio Rancho park named the best in an Albuquerque “Best of” list. Maybe it’s a good indication that we’re honestly becoming one metropolitan area to be enjoyed by all and we all appreciate finding the best, wherever it may be.

Good schools and their great graduates, outstanding sports teams, a park that is becoming a destination site — all of these Rio Rancho attributes benefit everyone. Our town will prosper, new companies will want to locate here and our home values will increase. All sorts of individual events combine to paint a picture of our community.

It’s a good day for Rio Rancho. It’s a time we can be proud to call this city home. We need to remember these successes when things in the city frustrate us. We’re on a good path and our future looks good.
