Julian Antonio Saenz, age 65, born in Albuquerqu­e, NM and resident of Virginia passed away Tuesday, December 31, 2016 from complicati­ons of pancreatic cancer.

Julian is survived by his wife of 40 years, Joann Ayon Saenz; children Julian and girlfriend, Xóchitl, Lydia and boyfriend, Dino, and Martin; grandchild­ren, Marcos, Christian, Julian Johnathon, Dino Jr, Diego, Audra, and Adela; brother Stephen and wife, Elsie; and sister, Rhonda.

He was preceded in death by his Father Arturo Saenz Sr.; mother Oliveria Garcia Saenz, and brother Arturo Saenz Jr. Julian served honorably in the Marine Corp, National Guard and achieved his master’s degree in public administra­tion from the University of New Mexico before retiring from the Albuquerqu­e Police Department, having achieved the rank of Sergeant. In 2000, he relocated to Virginia working in various agencies before accepting the position of Special Agent in Charge for the Department of Motor Vehicles. He was an active member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and received his 4th degree knighthood from the Knights of Columbus. Julian was a kind and loving husband, father, grandfathe­r, brother, uncle, and son. He was a source of great strength for his family with a sharp and clever sense of humor that kept everyone in high spirits. Throughout his grueling battle with cancer he maintained his strong demeanor with a smile on his face and a joke ready to be told. In other words, he was super chingon! He was a man of tremendous accomplish­ments and integrity who inspired all he met throughout his profession­al career and personal life. He was loved and he will be greatly missed.

Visitation will be Monday, January 9, 2017 from 6:30 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. in the Gabaldon Memorial Chapel, 1000 Old Coors Dr. SW with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. Final Visitation will be on Tuesday, January 10, 2017 from 10:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 5415 Fortuna Rd. NW with a Mass of Christin Burial to be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery. A memorial will be held in Virginia at a later date.
