- CATCHES OF THE WEEK AROUND THE STATE

Daniel Romero of Taos caught a 22½-inch brown trout Jan. 13 on the Rio Grande. He was using a streamer.

Bill Lampman of Logan caught an 8-pound, 30-inch walleye Jan. 12 at Ute Lake. He was fishing in 60 feet of water and using a Slingblade.

NOTES from GAME & FISH: Fishing at TINGLEY BEACH’S Central and Youth ponds was very good using meal worms, PowerBait, Zeke’s trout bait, salmon eggs and San Juan worms for trout. Fishing at the Bob Gerding Catch and Release Pond was fair to good using small streamers, egg patterns and olive and green bunny leeches.

Fishing on the ALBUQUERQU­E, BERNALILLO, CORRALES and PERALTA drains was good using wax worms, San Juan worms, salmon eggs, worms and small streamers for trout.

At ELEPHANT BUTTE LAKE, fishing was fair using spoons and jigs for white bass. Our only other report was of a largemouth bass caught by an angler using a jig.

BLUEWATER LAKE is closed to ice fishing due to thin ice conditions. There was some open water for shoreline fishing last week. Anglers managed to catch a few trout. They were using PowerBait, salmon eggs and homemade dough bait. For updates on ice conditions, contact the state park office at 505-876-2391.

Streamflow on the SAN JUAN RIVER from Navajo Reservoir on Monday was 357 cfs, with visibility less than 1 foot. Fishing through the high-quality waters was good using red annelids, streamers, woolly buggers, red hots, Desert Storms, red larvae, bunny leeches, egg patterns and princess nymphs. Fishing through the bait waters was good using worms, PowerBait, salmon eggs, San Juan worms and woolly buggers.

Water flow on the ANIMAS RIVER near Aztec on Monday morning was 350 cfs. Fishing was good using egg patterns, streamers, small jigs and salmon eggs for trout.

Monday morning water flows on the CHAMA RIVER below El Vado and Abiquiu were 101 cfs and 102 cfs, respective­ly. Fishing below El Vado was fair using streamers, worms and salmon eggs for a mix of brown and rainbow trout. Fishing below Abiquiu was good using worms, streamers, micro mays, San Juan worms and copper John Barrs for trout.

Stream flow on the RED RIVER below the hatchery on Monday was 43 cfs. Fishing was fair to good using salmon eggs, woolly buggers, San Juan worms and scuds for brown and rainbow trout.

At STORRIE LAKE, the ice has disappeare­d and the shoreline is once again open for bank fishing. For updates, call the state park office at 505-425-7278.

Fishing at UTE LAKE was good using Sling-blades and slab spoons at 50 feet for white bass. Anglers fishing at that depth also picked up catfish and a few walleye.

LAKE MALOYA reopened to ice fishing Jan. 20. Fishing was reported as excellent as most anglers caught limits of trout. Best baits were salmon eggs and pink PowerBait. For updates on ice conditions, call the state park office at 505-445-5607.

Ice thickness at EAGLE NEST LAKE last weekend was about 12 inches. Fishing was fair to good using meal worms, salmon eggs and ice jigs for rainbow trout, kokanee and perch. For updates on ice conditions, call the state park office at 575-377-1594.

Streamflow on the JEMEZ RIVER near Jemez Springs on Monday morning was 25 cfs. Early in the week, fishing on the Jemez was fair using wax worms and salmon eggs for trout.

Fishing at LAKE ROBERTS was very good using worms, PowerBait and salmon eggs for trout.

At BEAR CANYON LAKE, fishing was good using PowerBait, worms and salmon eggs for trout.

Fishing at BILL EVANS LAKE was good using salmon eggs, worms and PowerBait for trout.

At ALUMNI POND, fishing was good using PowerBait, salmon eggs and salmon egg marshmallo­w combinatio­ns for trout.

Fishing at LAKE VAN was good using PowerBait, salmon eggs and worms for trout.

Fishing at CARLSBAD MUNICIPAL LAKE was good using PowerBait, worms and salmon eggs for trout.
