COACH NEAL not only threw Paul Krebs under the bus with his comments at the press conference on Monday, he also put it in reverse and backed up over him. — Bill

AFTER THE PIT’S $60 million renovation several years ago, the Mountain West Conference brushed off the venue as a possible host for the men’s and women’s championship tournaments like flicking a fly off of their shoulder. Now with $300 plus per night hotel rooms in Las Vegas, UNLV in deadlast place and tournament supporting fan bases from San Diego State and New Mexico with middle-of-theroad teams, nary a tear will be shed for the upcoming sparse Thomas & Mack Center. The MWC can only dream about the excitement and affordability that Albuquerque could have offered. — JJ

BOB UNM AREA: I stopped going to unm football games because of the (lackluster) recruiting of New Mexico kids even though you choose to dismiss that notion. Certainly some fans have Lobo rose colored glasses and could care less about (their) fellow New Mexicans but that’s not me. Bob Davie discounting prices or winning against bad teams won’t do it but maybe giving 5 locals a scholarship a year would. I’d name lots of kiddos that were snubbed already but I think people would take a cheap shot at the kid or his family. — Frank Post

MISSISSIPPI rallied from being 23 points down Saturday to beat Auburn. Cullen , who has struggled of late, had 20 points and 5 assists. Tied for 6th in 14 team conference, they have a shot of finishing as high as 4th. — Fran
