CATCHES OF THE WEEK

Jimmy Martinez of Ojo Sarco caught a 28-inch brown trout Friday at Santa Cruz Reservoir. He was trolling a Kastmaster on lead core line by the reservoir wall. Ty Estavez of Farmington caught a largemouth bass weighing about 6 pounds Feb. 4 at Lake Farmington. He was slowly dragging a 3/8-ounce jig.

AROUND THE STATE

SANDIA LAKES: Fishing at Lakes 1 and 2 has been good. Anglers have had the most success using worms, salmon peach PowerBait and salmon eggs. We will be open Monday for Presidents Day. Desiree Benavidez

NOTES from GAME & FISH: Trout fishing at TINGLEY BEACH’S Central and Youth ponds was very good for some and a bit slower for others. Best baits were PowerBait, homemade dough bait, wax worms and salmon eggs.

Fishing on the ALBUQUERQUE DRAIN was very good using salmon eggs, wax worms, earth worms and small bead-head nymphs for trout. Fishing on the BELEN and CORRALES DRAINS was good using wax worms and salmon eggs for trout.

Fishing at COCHITI LAKE was slow for all species.

Streamflow on the SAN JUAN RIVER from Navajo Reservoir on Monday was 517 cfs. Trout fishing through the high-quality waters was fair using OJs, small streamers, Desert Storms, white bunny leeches, egg patterns and red larvae. Fishing through the bait waters was fair using salmon eggs, PowerBait, worms, copper John Barrs and jerk baits

BLUEWATER LAKE is closed to ice fishing due to thin ice. Shoreline fishing was slow to fair using PowerBait and salmon eggs for trout.

Fishing at ESCONDIDA LAKE was good using PowerBait, homemade dough bait, wax worms and salmon eggs for trout.

Fishing at ELEPHANT BUTTE LAKE was fair using spoons and jigs for white bass and an occasional walleye.

At PERCH LAKE, fishing was very good using homemade dough bait, PowerBait and salmon eggs for trout.

Fishing at BLUE HOLE PARK POND was good using PowerBait and salmon eggs for trout.

At SUMNER LAKE, fishing was good using jig and grub combinations and spoons for walleye. Most of the fish were caught at 25 feet or deeper.

Fishing on the PECOS RIVER was fair using salmon eggs, worms, egg patterns and small right colored nymphs for trout.

Streamflow on the RED RIVER below the hatchery on Monday was 48 cfs. Fishing was fair to good using woolly buggers, San Juan worms, PowerBait and salmon eggs for rainbow trout.

Streamflow on the RIO GRANDE on Monday at the Taos Junction Bridge was 739 cfs. Fishing was slow for all species.

Due to thinning ice, EAGLE NEST LAKE is open to walk-in traffic only. Fishing was good using Kastmasters and ice jigs tipped with PowerBait for rainbow trout. Fishing was very good using ice jigs tipped with mealworms or earthworms for perch.

Fishing at MONASTERY LAKE was good using PowerBait and salmon eggs for trout.

LAKE ALICE and LAKE MALOYA have closed to ice fishing due to poor ice conditions. For updates, call the state park office at 505-445-5607.

Stream flow on the JEMEZ RIVER near Jemez Springs on Monday morning was 178 cfs. Early in the week, fishing on the Jemez was fair to good using wax worms, small bead-head nymphs and salmon eggs for trout. Fishing on the CEBOLLA above Fenton Lake was good using salmon eggs.

FENTON LAKE is closed to fishing and all other activities due to thin ice. For updates, call the state park office at 575-829-3630.

Fishing at BEAR CANYON LAKE was very good using chartreuse PowerBait for trout. Memo Barajas and Fernie Herrera, ages 82 and 71, caught limits of trout last week. They were using cheese-flavored and chartreuse PowerBait.

At GREEN ACRES LAKE, fishing was good using PowerBait, salmon eggs and homemade dough bait for trout.

At GREEN MEADOW LAKE, fishing was very good using PowerBait, salmon eggs and worms for trout.

Fishing at GLENWOOD POND was good using PowerBait for trout.

Fishing at YOUNG POND was good using salmon eggs, Zeke’s trout bait and PowerBait for trout.

At CHAPARRAL PARK LAKE, fishing was good using worms, salmon eggs and PowerBait for trout.

Fishing at EL RITO LAKE was good using PowerBait, salmon eggs and salmon egg marshmallow combinations for trout.

At JAL LAKE, fishing was good using PowerBait and salmon eggs for trout.
