A true sister to Girl Scouts

-

HELP US SAY thank you to this wonderful women whose name was not shared . ... One of our Girl Scout Troops was selling cookies in front of Smith’s and an elderly woman, maybe in her 80s, left money as a donation before she went into Smith’s. Once she came out of the store with her groceries, she visited with the adult Girl Scout volunteers and girls. She shared that she had been in Girl Scouts in 1937 and later became a leader for a troop.

She then offered to pay for cookies when customers came to the table and then surprised us when she offered to buy a box of cookies if a customer bought one from our troop. It became a buy one get one free event! Not surprisingly, the booth became extremely busy as people hurried to get a free box of cookies — paid for by this generous woman. She stayed and continued to pay for people’s “free box” until she ran out of money.

A volunteer dad walked her to the car, unloaded her groceries and gave her a big hug. She wouldn’t leave her name and paid only with cash. The girls sold 179 boxes in two hours, a very good number during the last weekend of cookie season — the largest financial literacy program for girls in the world; $760.75 was raised for girls in two hours.

Girl Scouts teaches us to be a sister to every Girl Scout and she is our sister and we say thank you for the lessons you taught our girls that day! You are so appreciated! PEGGY SANCHEZ MILLS CEO, Girl Scouts of New Mexico Trails Albuquerque
