-

Estella Garcia (Avila), of Albuquerque, died Tuesday morning, March 28, 2017, at her family home. She was

82. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank J. Garcia and her grandson, Joshua Garcia. She is survived by her sister Dilia Blackard of Grand Junction, CO; her children LeRoy Garcia (Margie) of Atlanta, GA, John Garcia (Maggie) of Los Angeles, CA, Doris Garcia, Albuquerque; her grandchildren Bernadette, Johnathan, Jessica, Anthony, Corey, Angelo, Carmelita and great-grandson Xavier.

She enjoyed a life that took her from Veguita, NM on world travels that included Japan, living life for periods of time in Honolulu, Hawaii and Los Angeles CA.

Her love and devotion to her family and friends was unmatched. It was not uncommon for her to feed and house whoever came to her home. This was usually followed by the anticipated prompt request from the visitor to make them their favorite dish by our mom. She was making pinto beans long before the rest of the world found out how healthy and protein rich they were or potatoes for her granddaughter Jessica. We have shared her recipes worldwide, winning chile cook offs with her green chile stew and making Carne Adovada converts (Avila family recipe).

Among the many organizations she belonged to she really enjoyed being a proud member of the “Loyal Order of Moose” lodge on Edith Blvd., where she shared many stories of her friends.
