Porter, Mary Sue Gibson
Mary Sue Gibson Porter left to be with her Lord on April 11, 2017 at the age of 88. She had lived for the last eight years in Dallas, Texas. Sue was born on October 29,1928 in Washington, D.
C. to Dr. John
Paul and Esther Gibson. She earned her B.A. in Art from Abilene Christian College. She married William Harvey Porter on June 1, 1951.
Sue was an accomplished artist, poet, pianist, photographer, sailor, seamstress, cook, word game champ, preacher’s wife, Bible school teacher, hostess, and world traveler.
Sue and Harvey lived in Tyler, TX and Georgetown, TX, then moved to Albuquerque in 1956 to work with the church. Sue taught 6th grade Bible class for 30 years influencing many young adults.
Sue was widowed in March of 1998 after Harvey passed away.
She is survived by her brother John David Gibson and wife Sara of Commerce, TX; sister Doris June Beeson and husband Ray of Nashville, TN; daughters, Paula Hutton and husband James of Edmond, OK and Carla Early and husband Jerry of Abilene, TX; sons, Joel Porter and wife, Sabrina of Cedar Hill, TX and Sam Porter and wife Susan of Albuquerque; eight grandchildren and six greatgrandchildren.
A Memorial service will be held at the NE Heights Church of Christ, 11000 Paseo Del Norte NE, Albuquerque, NM on April 22 at 11am with Joel Porter, David Nestor and John Phillis officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the One Heart Fund for Juliette Fowler Communities, 1234 Abrams Rd, Dallas, TX 75214.
